I continue to play and I am just confused half the time, enjoying myself one other quarter of the time, and fucking pissed off the last quarter. The puzzles are fairly straight forward, but due to the awful controls and camera angles, finding what one may have to jump to is near impossible. I just finished the windmill scene, and I figured I had to jump onto one of the blades to get to the top, but finding out what part of the blade had to be jumped onto required me to look up a youtube video because it was so difficult. Not to mention if you fall off said blade...you die!! Not to mention the fact that the AI or Yorda is lacking tremendously. Right before a huge fight, there was a save point and SHE WOULD NOT SIT DOWN, causing me to have to skip that save point to fight enemies. Getting this chick to do anything is fucking annoying. Not only that but the combat system should not exist, as we saw in SOTC, no puzzles and just fighting Colossus was fun, the puzzle was in the fight, trying to figure out how to bring down the monsters, I feel in this game, there should have been no fighting, and straight puzzles, it almost feels like an afterthought how choppy and annoying it is to try and hit an enemy. OTHER THAN THAT- exploring, doing puzzles, the scenery and sounds, are all very fun, and the story is intriguing. I have not beat it yet, but it seems like they might want to go back and just touch up this game and we might have a gem here.
Amen brotha!

I beat it just a few minutes ago. My initial impressions from a few pages ago are largely unchanged. The combat gets quicker as your weapons get better, but it is just as buggy and annoying (if shorter). There are some real hum-dingers for horrible platforming to look forward to, and plenty more "JESUS CHRIST Yorda!" moments to follow. But the game is pretty.

***SPOILER TALK***

Also, I know that it is a popular sentiment that this game has some kind of touching ending, emotional resonance, etc. Where? I am not a jaded heartless slob, but there is nothing here that even begins to "explore relationships" or "tug at the heart," etc. I know I've read folks on this very board say that the ending will leave you thinking/teary/ect. - WHY?!

***END SPOILER TALK***

I honesty am glad to have this game checked off the list. Didn't care a whole lot for either it or SOTN - I am now convinced these two games get the praise they do primarily because they have some nifty graphics, sounds, etc. - the actual experience of each is not especially fun.

I'm thinking of taking a break from the list for a while to play some other games that I suspect will be more fun. I am thinking Panzer Dragoon II and Orta might be next when I get back to the list, unless someone else (Snickerdoodle?) is planning on tacking one of those mutual games soon.

I'll admit I was glad he made it out of that castle. I mean, would you really want to be stuck in there forever? But I'd say the real emotional tug was in seeing the end of Shadow of the Colossus and suddenly realizing they might be connected.

You know, it has been so long since I played/beat SotC that I can't remember the ending anymore. I'll have to see about going through it again....

Alright, I just beat Ico, we have all already heard what I hate about the game, and those thoughts have not changed, Ico is the escort mission from hell...now, as far as level and puzzel design, the game is phenomenal- great graphics, cool levels, are the few things that kept me going. However, because the gameplay was so bad, I used a walkthrough because I did not want to spend the time actually trying to figure stuff out. The story was interesting in that it did not progress through questing, but just the fact that Yorda was with you the whole time this was supposed to bring some kind of emotional attatchment...which I guess is fun to think of, but come on, I didn't even know this girl, sure we went through some pretty life changing events together, but I know nothing about her, what kind of food does she like, what does she want to do on the weekends, what was her last boyfriend like!!! These are important things! and without any dialouge, it was far fetched to call this a romantic amazing/touching ending, I will say that it is the start of something great to come in Ico and Yordas life! overall C- on this game

I will be starting Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess next simply because I know a Zelda game will not disappoint me like Ico has

We pretty much had the same thoughts on Ico. Overrated, no doubt.

And TP is on my list too, but I am not ready for an RPG just yet. If you want to do it at the same time, you should hold off for a bit. I'd recommend FF7 if you want a good RPG from your list, or maybe play something like Contra or Sonic 3. I know that after Ico, I wanted something that would control like a dream...

Huh, interesting. I had a completely different experience with this game. Im not gonna babble on about artistic merit and whatnot, as i thought in some cases that was actually detrimental (there were a few camera angle which looked pretty, but made jumping above instant death pits to grab chains tricky to judge, especially with the shoddy PS2 analogue stick. However, I loved the gameplay. I found it amusing and fun, and I felt a true senseof adventure because Ico wasnt all powerful. I also did feel attached to Yorda in a sense. I thought i was just worried about losing my game (and of course I was) when i had to leave her behind, but *SPOILERS* when she gets taken away near the end of the game, i really did feel concern and a twinge of loneliness when going back to save her. */SPOILERS*

Oh well, we can't all like everything. Enjoy Zelda. I still havent beat TP myself actually.

So sorry I haven't really said anything as far as to what I'm doing right now, shortly after beating Ico I got strep throat and had to work all weekend so I have been in a funk. I decided to put Twilight Princess on hold for now and will play when other people are ready, I think I might go for Spyro next because I am already half way through the game. Hope other people are making great progress as well!

More progress on my 24 strong list of games to beat, I've now beat 10 of them.

Still to go:
Chuchu Rocket
Jet Set Radio
Nights
Okami
Pokemon Stadium
Quarth
Red Steel
Shadow of the Colossus
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Unirally
Viewtiful Joe
Wario Land: The Shake Dimension
Yoshi's Island DS
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest

I ended up skipping Super Hang-On, because i found it boring and not fun in the slightest. I might replace it with Hotel Dusk. Still no X game worth playing though.

You didn't like any of my previous suggestions?
Xevious (or the awesome Xevious 3D/G+)
X-Com: UFO Defense
anything X-Men? (e.g. X-Men vs. Street Fighter, X-Men Legends, etc.)
Xenophobe has quite a few ports as well...
Ok, here's a few more:

Anything Xenosaga (although I seem to think you ruled this out for some reason...)
XIII - PS2 or Xbox FPS
Xexyz - NES Run'n Gun
Xardion - SNES (action platformer)
XGRA racing games - multiple platforms

Haha, they were all games I'd already considered, but none of the ones available to me appeal. Im not much into FPS, so XIII is out, Xexyz, xenosaga and xenogears never made it to the UK (xenosaga 2 and 3 did, but i'll be lost in the story :S), xenophobe and x com dont appeal. I did consider xevious, but i worry it'll be a bit too dated for my tastes. XGRA and Xmen I considered, even if i'm not too excited by them. Which would people recommend in the series? As for Xardion and Xevious 3d, i'd never heard of them, I'll take a look. Other games I considered included X, XG Blast and X games.

Just seems like X was harder to find a game for than the rest, even with lots of options :(

EDIT: Xardion looked fun, but never made it to PAL land seemingly.
