Nice reads on empireonline

Post by Gamerforlife »

I was actually reading their 100 Best Films of World Cinema and then noticed an article on The 50 Greatest Video Game characters. I'm not down with the No. 1 choice, but some of you will LOVE it. Links:

Do they have all of these on one page somewhere? I hate clicking through for each number...

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's annoying, and I don't think they have them all listed in one place. It's worth clicking through the pages though. I like the little write ups they have for each entry in both lists. They're both informative and funny. I also love the large pics for the Top 50 game characters list. Some of their choices for that list in particular were surprising, which makes it an interesting read

Putting gordon freeman on as best character is like putting a 70 year old man that can't get it up as best porn star.

Usagi Yojimbo would kick Ryu's ass any day

apart from that, there were about 3 entries on the list, worthwhile

rest of it, as always, biased crap.

and Gordon Freeman?

....

I've no words for how much I despise that character

what'd he ever say to you to make you hate him so much? :P

but seriously, it does seem odd to reserve such loathing for a character like that. he's so completely transparent, it's like having intense hatred for the spaceship in Galaga as a character.

I didn't see the whole list, though I was surprised to see Harman Smith on it.

my hate isn't towards the character as much as it is towards the fanboyism regarding the same

he's the main protagonist of 2 games (haven't played the "episodes", but IIRC he's not in the lead, correct me if I'm wrong)

he has no personality traits which differs him from any of his generic enemies
he has no interesting background to speak of
he does nothing out of the ordinary "save the world" in the games
he has no depth

all he truly has is a crowbar and an education

I dare say that "Ranger" from Quake1 has more personality than this little punk

and yes... I bought HL1 on release
and yes... I've played HL2

both generic, bland kill the invading force, crap mass-marketed hyped-out-of-proportion piece of shit games

only reason I own them is for the mods

(yes. I am a bit cranky at the moment and if I have to see Freeman top yet another list within this decade, I'll write my own list)
