I'm going to ask you to defend this statement. Why does DKC look like a WiiWare game?
Well, derp. That's because it's 2.5D.
Yeah I'm puzzled too. I don't see why it would be a wiiware game? I'm really excited about all of Nintendo's offerings (yes, even Just Dance 2, it's fun) and can't wait to get my hands on the 3DS.
I find it quite funny that most of the replies in this Sony thread are about Nintendo's conference. Just shows what a good job they're doing right now. I think this DIlbert comic sums up Microsoft and Sony right now: http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comic/2009-12-09/

It looks like something that could have been made 10+ years ago. As I was watching it was I excited for DCKR to be a WiiWare title, expecting it to be similar to Sonic 4. That doesnt mean i think itll be a bad game or anything. Just doesnt seem like something that should be a full release.

This viewpoint is probably why we don't get a lot of retail releases of sidescrollers anymore.

You do realize that the response issues were do to interference right?

I guess you and me just have different views, then. If Mega Man 9 & 10 had been full retail releases I would have been just as happy as their current WiiWare incarnations. It was good enough for retail when I was a kid and it's good enough now. Same with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Hell, if you buy all the chapters (and I can't imagine someone not doing so) it's about the same price as a full retail release. I personally see WiiWare as a venue for developers to show off games they cannot get published for a regular retail release. Donkey Kong Country is a strong platformer, and its certainly going to be as large as New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I think it does it a disservice to say "this should be a WiiWare title." Same with the new Sonic 4; I'd be perfectly happy if they did a retail release. There seems to be a perception that a side scrolling platformer is a "dated" genre, so it should be banished to the land of cheap downloadable games. I argue that this is completely false. They are certainly no longer in vogue (though they seem to be going through a resurgence) but they are just as fun as they were when we were all growing up.

And hot stage lights. Controllers based on sensing two IR sources don't mix well with hot stage lights, especially when he's trying to demo something that involves pointing the Wiimote directly at those lights.
Also, the whole "looks like a Gamecube game" thing is old now. Yes, we realize that everything on the Wii looks like it could have been done on the Gamecube. It probably could have. The Wii really isn't that much more advanced than the Gamecube. It's like complaining that GBA games look like they could have been done on the SNES or that DS games look like they could have been done on the N64.

While I agree with your point, I don't think you used very good examples.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 both look better than Sunshine. Twilight Princess looked better than what I saw of the New Zelda game. In my opinion, Wind Waker looked better than both. I understand there was some interference with the controls, they said it repeatedly. When they did work, they looked slow. Look, I love nintendo, and I really enjoy Zelda. I guess I had higher hopes for this game. Im not saying it wont be fun or it will suck, but my expectations have been greatly lowered.
As far the the DKC being a WiiWare, when they showed it I initially though it was WiiWare because it is 2.5D as Niode pointed out. I understand New SMB Wii is selling like hotcakes, but SMB is significantly more popular than DKC. I was expecting DKC to be 2D episodic like Sonic 4. Again, I was just pointing out my initial reactions.
Once again, I must point out, I though Nintendo had the best conference. I just wanted more out of it. The only thing in the entire conference that really has me excited is 3DS.
