ESPN + Xbox 360 + ????

Post by JokermanJohnny »

I don't have the video to prove it, but I was watching part of the E3 conference on Youtube when I saw that ESPN was going to team up with Microsoft to stream college football, baseball, Sports Center and other stuff like that.

Personally, I'm not that much of a sports fan, but what do you guys think? Could this be a good deal or is this all going to be one laughable joke?

I think it's hilariously indicative of the 360's target audience.

As a huge sports fan who subscribes to several season passes and watches ESPN all the time, I can honestly say I don't give a shit.

Please, not all sports fans or sports games fans are meatheads. Besides, it seems pretty clear from E3 the target demographic is people who want to flail about like giant idiots.

It's just Netflix but for sports games. Not something that interests me but it's just one more thing to convince people to get rid of their TV subscription. And amusingly, the two ESPN presenters were the only people in the entire MS conference that could present well.

If I had a 360, I would probably watch but this would not sway me into buying one even though like dsheinem I am a huge sports nut.

This just seems like another step to make the Xbox 360 a home entertainment console as well as a video game console. More family friendly, more options to include everyone in the household (I feel ESPN is aimed more at dad and college kids), but still retaining the adult games. I feel like they are trying to take what the Wii has already done and improve it (or just cash in on it).

I personally might watch a game every now and then but Im not a huge sports fan. This would be a neat little addition though for me, i would use it for sure, but I could also do without it just fine as well.

The only significance to this is for those that do not have cable. Which begs to question how many people have high speed internet and don't have cable? I'd venture to bet it's a pretty small population.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it.. My girlfriend and I refuse to get/pay for cable television, since we've got Netflix. The only thing I really miss about cable tv are the sports, so this is definitely a great thing for me.. Of course, I realize I'm also probably a pretty niche audience.

The only reason I have cable TV is it's a package deal with my internet and my phone (need a local number for the apartment gate). Once I move I'm getting rid of the TV and phone and sticking with just the internet.
