I have to totally disagree with you there. I didn't think the game controlled that badly, and i've never encounted the finicky controls you're describing. Yorda was pretty useless, I will admit, but only at one specific point did i have any real problems getting her where i needed her to go. At that point though, it was quite a big problem I admit.

One of the core mechanics of the game is built around you trying to feebly slap around demons while trying to Keep Yorda's dumb ass from leaping into their arms. You have to spend a lot of time dealing with idiot A.I.alienjesus wrote:I have to totally disagree with you there. It's true that I've played many games with worse controls, but I have played many - including Team Ico's SotC - with far far superior controls. It just seems to me like the game gets a pass on some of its fundamentals because of its artistic merit. And because those fundamentals aren't there, the game has not been fun for me so far.

Where are you in the game? The fights become less bothersome as you progress, there are very few occasions where they're really a pain from what I remember, even if I agree that the fighting sucks. Personally, I much prefer Icos controls to those in SotC, i cannot stand those controls. And personally, I enjoyed the gameplay of Ico just as much, if not moreso than the artistic merit. I really liked the puzzle platforming elements.dsheinem wrote:

Also, staying near a shadow portal and holding Yorda's hand during battle really helps imo. Dont worry about her moving, move her around yourself.

Man, and Mr Popo wanted to meet me out in the parking lot for saying I hated Deus Ex. You''re gonna be getting a car bomb or something.dsheinem wrote:*grumble grumble*

But hey everyone's entitled to their opinion and at least we've given the games a chance. Maybe you'll change your mind, maybe you wont.

If Deus Ex and Ico had a baby it would be almost exactly like this:

Oh now you've done it. The hornet's nest hasn't just been poked, it's been pulled out of the tree and drop kicked into the neighbor's yard.dsheinem wrote:If Deus Ex and Ico had a baby it would be almost exactly like this:

Ok, I just finished SOTN.
I throughly enjoyed it. I am on the fence whether or not I this Castlevania was harder than Bloodlines or not.
Either way. I am happy and finished with 196.5% completed.
I don't know if Ill join in with ICO or go back to FFX. I am afraid since I took about a month off of FFX that I will never pick it back up again. AND I just got the Essential Metal Gear Solid PS2 pack. I beat the first game back in the day but none since then. I am thinking about playing the three straight through.
So I guarantee that I will be playing Marvel Super-Heroes (Sat and MAME versions) this weekend.
But for my next game it's either: FFX, ICO, or MGS

Go with FFX and get it over with. Ico's short, you can come back to it, and MGS is a big commitment in my opinion, at least with the storyline. I'd wait to finish your other pressing games before diving into it. So...yeah, my vote says finish FFX.SpaceBooger wrote:Ok, I just finished SOTN.

Re: Snickerd00dle's summer game challenge
Alright, so I am in the midst of playing Ico right now and I just have to take a break, I picked up the game from where my save file left off, which was the trolly scene. very early on in the game, and I remember everything that had happened thus far. I continue to play and I am just confused half the time, enjoying myself one other quarter of the time, and fucking pissed off the last quarter. The puzzles are fairly straight forward, but due to the awful controls and camera angles, finding what one may have to jump to is near impossible. I just finished the windmill scene, and I figured I had to jump onto one of the blades to get to the top, but finding out what part of the blade had to be jumped onto required me to look up a youtube video because it was so difficult. Not to mention if you fall off said blade...you die!! Not to mention the fact that the AI or Yorda is lacking tremendously. Right before a huge fight, there was a save point and SHE WOULD NOT SIT DOWN, causing me to have to skip that save point to fight enemies. Getting this chick to do anything is fucking annoying. Not only that but the combat system should not exist, as we saw in SOTC, no puzzles and just fighting Colossus was fun, the puzzle was in the fight, trying to figure out how to bring down the monsters, I feel in this game, there should have been no fighting, and straight puzzles, it almost feels like an afterthought how choppy and annoying it is to try and hit an enemy. OTHER THAN THAT- exploring, doing puzzles, the scenery and sounds, are all very fun, and the story is intriguing. I have not beat it yet, but it seems like they might want to go back and just touch up this game and we might have a gem here.
