cloud-gaming sounds like paradise to some (play Crysis on a Pentium1), but IMO it won't get a foothold in the real world

sure, I've got me 25Mbit connection (and can get up to 1000Mbit if I so choose; Sweden FTW), but the vast majority of the world doesn't have this kind of connection (China anyone?) hence the premise for it is marketed to "richer" countries where this kind of connection is available

that being said, I don't believe in the 3D/motion-control hype either

and no.
not everyone has a HD-TV, actually far, far, far from it

3D is fancy in all it's honor and glory and will probably garner a specific crowd with specific games, but in all seriousness? there's more genres than FPS out there

how'd you go about making a Super Mario in 3D?

I think that the video-game market will turn on itself like it did for the US back in '84

we're getting way too much shovel-ware as it is with one FPS cloning the other in order to garner the "new generation" of gamers

as I see it, more and more "small" companies are getting a foothold in the industry and I hope that there will be some kind of innovation coming, because as it is right now the vast majority of games are clones of each-other

I don't care if a game is AAA (which as mentioned earlier, I have not seen, nor heard any person ever mentioning anything about any kind of A titles), I want a quality time for as long as it lasts

I am hoping that the industry will take a couple of steps backwards and realize that we're getting far too realistic in our games

realism and gaming has it's place, in select few titles
but really, how many wars can you handle, before growing tired of shooting people down in games?

how much more real does a game need to be in order for you to enjoy it?

back when sprites were ruling the market, nobody tried to tell themselves that "wow, this looks so real!", on the contrary, we were looking for something which reality could not give us

I mean, in all honesty: if Super Mario ever starts stomping on real mushrooms, fighting real opponents, then what's there left for our imagination?

as long as people keep giving the industry money for shit-games and reviewers get paid off for praising the same game-concept, over and over and over again, the market will never advance and we will be stuck with Crysis and it's ilk

what we need is to look back on our history, see what games sold well and why

I'm going to go on a line here and say that gamers want a physical copy of their purchase

it's the same as with books; sure you can read E-books, but you want something to put in your shelf, show off to your friends or just have it there to admire it for yourself

same goes with controllers

not everyone wants motion-controlled games and not all games are meant to be motion-controlled

as I see it right now the ones whom should be ruling the market are the indie-companies and the modders (moddb anyone?) with their innovation and their "new takes on old genres"

instead we have Activision and Co. ruling the market by telling the people what the people want to play

as long as companies are deciding what a good game is, the trend of releasing crap will continue

this being one of a select few "big" retro-communities, should give some kind of indication that there are people out there, whom like it oldskool and who want that feel in their games

the DS is perhaps the most genius console to come out of this generation
why?

I can mention 6 games that's been remade of off the top of my head:

Impossible Mission
Bubble Bobble
Arkanoid
Giana Sisters DS
New Zeeland Story
Rainbow Islands

the list goes on...

these games were remade for a new generation to see if there was any interest in them
I don't know any statistics, but I gather as much as since they have been remade, someone has bought them and there was/is a market for them

same goes for plenty of the DS library of games.. they remain sprite-based

and the DS (if I'm not completely mistaken) is selling like hot butter in the sun

In light of this, it's easy to predict how the coming five years will shape up - with boxed product being restricted to franchises, sequels and blockbuster, marketing led titles from huge publishers, while the real innovation and development takes place on digital platforms, never touching the store shelves.

For all our misgivings about digital distribution, the market - consumers and publishers alike - has now ensured that innovation has little place in boxed games. That's a reality which we may come to regret.

Virtual Reality headsets with full motion controls.

Stick your arm out in front of you. Now what's in your hand - a gun, a knife.. or maybe a sword?

Now look down. What's on your waist - extra bullets, grenades.. Chinese throwing stars?
