I'm interested to see it in motion, if it kicks ass I'll tack it on to my 'reasons to buy a PS3 list'.

Re: New Contra Announced for PSN and XBLA
I hope its not as insanely hard as the original Hard Corps on the Genesis. Too hard for me. Well the original had the Konami Code that I could sort of get through the game with. Hard Corps has none and I dont think I got even halfway through the first level. : (

Still no Contra on WiiWare for Australia.
Lets hope this new one makes it here in reasonable time.

The art style is killing me! O well, Hard Corps is my least favorite Contra game excluding the 3-d ones. All I hope is that will bring enough attention to the series for a Contra 5.

I hope it is just as hard as the original.Betamax001 wrote:I hope its not as insanely hard as the original Hard Corps on the Genesis. Too hard for me. People have a tough time with Hard Corps because they haven't noticed the patterns. Everything in that game has a pattern and once you've memorized it you'll find the game is not as hard as you think it is. Also, the robot has one really powerful weapon that makes things a bit easier too
I think people assume they need mad skills to play a game like Hard Corps. It's not so much skill as it is knowing your enemy and having the right weapon for the situation.
But I read they are including an easy mode with a health bar, like the japanese versions of the original Hard Corps had so that should make every one happy. Kind of makes me wonder why previous games didn't have an easy mode instead of making people rely on codes
If this game is even as good as Shattered Soldier was it will be a lot of fun

I agree that the Hard Corps is mostly pattern memorization due to its heavy emphasis on boss fights. Honestly the game is a breeze up until the fourth level, in my opinion anyways.Gamerforlife wrote:I hope it is just as hard as the original.Betamax001 wrote:I hope its not as insanely hard as the original Hard Corps on the Genesis. I wonder if the game is going to actually be spiritual successor to Hard Corps with the branching levels and action movie dialogue, or a spin off that is basically Contra just with a different feel.

I think the branching paths and four unique characters are the game's biggest strengths. Those are the two things it has over the Genesis' other top dog run n gun game, which was Gunstar HeroesMr.White555 wrote:I agree that the Hard Corps is mostly pattern memorization due to its heavy emphasis on boss fights. Re: New Contra Announced for PSN and XBLA
Never liked Gunstar heroes that much. It's a good game, but there's just something about it that makes the gameplay annoying, and i can't quite put my finger on it. It's the same thing with Strider. Often i can't tell what is hitting me.
The boss design is also pretty lame.
Contra Hard Corps is the superior game by far, since the action is much smoother, and the bosses are just amazing. Probably the best on the whole system. I just love bosses that are so big that they don't fit on the screen.
This new Hard Corps, i don't know about it. I'd say that the anime graphics aren't fitting for a Contra game, but since it doesn't bear the Contra name and it's more of a homage, i can excuse that. I hate the pseudo 3d though. What the hell is wrong with just having 2d graphics? It looks much nicer.
The thing that i'm afraid of is that they will make this game too casual-oriented, and it turns out to be way too easy. I hope that they won't give in to the pressure.
I have faith in these guys.
What i really want though is a new Contra game, on a disc, in the vein of Contra: Shattered Soldier, for the PS3 and 360. That could be mindblowing. It's too bad that Konami will probably just keep releasing these for handhelds and online stores.

Re: New Contra Announced for PSN and XBLA
There's a lot of points here I agree with. I do think Gunstar Heroes is a great game though, but it has a penchant for throwing EVERYTHING at you INCLUDING the kitchen sink that can be a turnoff. Contra Hard Corps is more restrained and methodical. That's how Treasure rolls though. I used to hate Guardian Heroes on the Saturn because there would be so much happening onscreen sometimes I couldn't even find my character. Once I learned how to use Nicole though, things died quickly.Onikage wrote:Never liked Gunstar heroes that much. I never liked the original Strider either. It hasn't aged well and I didn't play it until long after it was originally released. The Playstation version of Strider 2 however, is excellent.
I share your sentiments on this new Contra game(as well your desire for a PHYSICAL release of a new Contra game). I don't like the pseudo 3d style they chose as it's been done to death, but it is the gameplay that will make or break this new Contra game for me

Footage is on 1up now. Doesn't look like Hard Corps to me, it looks like Contra Rebirth except with anime influence. Meh.
