PS2 Shadow Hearts Promotional Copy Not for Resale

Post by l0whit07 »

I tried searching for a topic to put this in, but I couldn't find one. If there is a better one, please move mine. Thanks.

Anyway I was browsing the local used game stores and I came across Shadow Hearts for the PS2. It says Promotional Copy Not for Resale. The manual also says the same thing. It was the same price as a regular Shadow Hearts so I picked it up.

The disc does not say anything about it being a Promotional copy. I am very unfamiliar with NFR stuff so I didn't know if the discs are usually labeled as such. Are they?

Don't know if anyone cares at all, but the ifferences in the 2 copies:

The outside artwork looks the same for the most part. Same picture, same colors. On the ESRB rating it has a 17+ next to the "Mature" and the regular copy doesn't. The back doesn't have quotes from IGN and RPGamer. Different UPC. And the bottom information is organized differently.

The coloring on the manuals is different, slightly. Same 17+ on the ESRB. The NFR stamp. It has 4 less pages.

The discs look identical except there is more of a red tint on the NFR version.

Mainly looking for a way to tell the discs apart. Besides the red tint there appears to be no difference. I haven't played them yet. Will there be a way to tell the difference by putting the disc in.

A pic showing that promo label difference?

You can check properties of both discs on a PC or Mac.

You can't buy that game. It's not for resale. Give it to me. Come on, hand it over.

Honestly though, I doubt you'll find much difference between either version apart from the aesthetic ones you've mentioned. Out of curiosity, what difference are you looking for?

Oh I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I got this one because it was in better condition than the other other ones I was looking at. For reference I just wanted to know if there was anything different with the game itself.

For example, I know some NFR games are not full copies of the game and are used basically as an advertisement.

I'll just go give it a shot here in a few.. but was seeing if anyone else had one of these who would be knowledgeable about it.

Ah, I see. I don't think that NFR versions of games usually have removed content, that's what I imagine as a demo. However, the only NFR game I actually have experience with is Sonic the Hedgehog, so what do I know.

An early copy for demonstration at Trade Shows and Press reviews? Definitely a rarer version of the game.
A shame there are no Promotion markings on the discs. Anything different in that fine print of the discs?
Did the disc properties on the PC or Mac show anything?
