help with a model 1 sega cd

Post by Wobble The Hutt »

the system works but the drive wont stop when you eject it, it comes out and stays for a moment then goes back in and back out again. however if you turn it back off and on again while the drive is all the way in, it works. was hoping someone might have some ideas on how to fix this though.

The frontloader, Sounds like the switch that senses when you push the tray for auto play.

Most tray CD drives had a couple of switches to make it stop when opening or closing once part of the tray hits them. Maybe one of those is messed up in your unit. I have a model 1 coming to me for repair, maybe I'll be able to provide more insight once I've had a look at that one.

thanks guys the hint with the switches was the motivation i needed to tackle it. someone had previously "repaired" one of the switches so i stole the switch board off the bottom of my old model 1 (gears were stripping because the grease had dried out) and the gears wernt lined up right either. hobie if you need any help getting the tray allgined i got a trick for ya however it involves epoxy and temporarly breaking part of the tray guide rails. if you have a better way to get that drive apart id love to hear it.

also if you need a spare drive motor laser asembly or mainboard i have them all from my old model 1 unit and be happy to mail them to you for the cost of shipping. :)

Cool, glad the pointer helped out. Once I take a look at FFCD's SCD I'll have a better idea what's up with that one. Even if I don't need parts, there might be others that do. :)
