Genres should definitely have their own section

As for game developers, I think this would be good for articles on the site proper.

I'd love to see articles on individual designers like Fumito Ueda, Michel Ancel and Tetsuya Mizuguchi. I get so sick of hearing about the same big names all the time like Hideo Kojima, Shigeru Miyamoto and Itagaki. Seriously, these guys don't need any more press.

I don't think we need to dedicate more wasted space to genres. The RPG/Shmup/Fighter section gets very little traffic as it is.

I think that the "Shmups" section should be renamed "shooters" or something so that it is a little more inclusive. Right now I wouldn't know if Contra would count, since I don't know if people consider run 'n gun to be a subset of shmups.

But I agree that the genre forums don't get a lot of traffic. It's understandable, when, if you mention "Shenmue" or "Zelda" or something in the "RPG" forum you get a visit from the genre gestapo.

I tend to consier Shmups and Run-N-Guns to be two very different sub-genres of Shooters.

I tend to think the same way, but that usage of those terms is not universal.

Regardless, it seems a little odd to me to have an entire forum devoted to such a narrow sub-genre while "RPG" and "Fighters" are rather broader categories. That is, except for RPGs, which we seem to have defined so narrowly within the forum that games like the original Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior are no longer included.

The original Final Fantasy is no longer an RPG? What is it then? A 3D racing sim?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Maybe he's referring to that thread where everyone is insisting Zelda isn't an RPG and like two people are insisting it is? His point is hyperbole, in other words.

I guess you think all these are wasted space too, right? The only places with high traffic are Whatever, B/S/T, Technical Help, Sega, Nintendo, and Microsoft/Sony. Should we only have those sections and make it hard to find anything?
