Sending in a Halo Xbox 360 for repairs.

Post by EveningEmma »

My Xbox just died on me - E74 error, fortunately(?), so it's within the extended warranty.
I'm going to send it in as soon as I can, which will probably be another two and half weeks, as I'm moving then.

This shouldn't be a problem, but I have the Halo 3 version of the console, and I'm afraid that I will not get the same one back.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
I wouldn't even mind if I got a different Halo 3 console back, I just don't want a standard black or white one, as I think they look pretty cheap in comparison, and I paid more money for my one.

Any advice, or just words of comfort?

Give them a ring. It's a free phone number. Then, if they will send you a like for like as in another halo 3 xbox 360, then get get them to put it in writing. You're covered in case you get a standard 360 in exchange that way. If you don't get anything in writing you don't have a leg to stand on unfortunately, since their policy is exchange like for like it doesn't necessarily guarantee that you'll get the exact same model back.

In my experience the give you the same casing the swap out the inner "cage" and MoBo you'll more than likely get a 12.1v unit back.

Mine was a red RE5 one, I know the case is the same one as it had a little scratch on the top.

Remember back in the day where this wasn't something we had to worry about?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

 Sorry, I have the irony of three yes THREE turnarounds on the YLOD PS3s. Lucky still in warranty.

Not sure about Microsoft, but competitor Sony would always even swap for another same 60gb Emotion Chip unit.

It could be worse, you could have a PS3 that gets YLOD. At least Microsoft will cover you for 3 years for free. Sony basically tell you go fuck yourself after 12 months. Unless you're in the UK/Europe and you tell them to "fix it or I'm taking you to small claims court" that worked for my friend with a launch unit 60GB when it broke a couple of months ago. Got it replaced for free and a £10 PSN card as a gesture of goodwill AKA "please don't sue us".

This is true had to pay for the first repair, 162 bucks.
2nd PS3 and now 3rd YLOD within 90 days so free musical chair service.

I sent in my Xbox 360 Elite last Monday and I was scared they'd send me a white one. But I'm pretty sure if they did send you the wrong model, you just call them up and give them the serial number from your old one and it will say what model it was.

QUESTION: Do newer made Xbox 360s have any different or better hardware than consoles that were made in 2007 or earlier?

Yes every Xbox you buy brand new will be a Jasper now. Which is a 150w PSU and 65nm CPU AND GPU. I have a Jasper Elite and it runs cool and quiet for hours on end.

Awesome! I won't need a new power cable will I? Another question: They delivered my Xbox today but I was still in bed when they arrived and I just got up as the truck was leaving. They didn't leave a notice on the door or anything. Can I go pick it up somewhere today or do I need to wait until they bring it again tomorrow? (Or do they even?)
