I bought a psp.
I bought and played about 8 games.
I sold it 2 months later.
Why did I sell it? Well because the psp is only good for emulation.
Which I do not do.
Apparently piracy is the PSP's problem

I like your posts good sir. Very well crafted.Niode wrote:Yep. Sony's problem is arrogance. They got arrogant because their first console was a runaway success, they followed it up with another run-away success. They got complacent. They thought that their Playstation brand was bullet proof, that they could quite confidently shit in a box and sell it with the logo and make a killing.Dylan wrote:Exactly. Probably the biggest problem I have though is the way Sony is shifting the blame onto external sources. It's obviously impossible for Sony to make bad business decisions, so the responsible party is the user base. Sony needs to get a little less arrogant and start acknowledging its mistakes before it keeps compounding the colossal train wreck it's in right now.
Sony are just an arrogant company, they always have been. They need to learn to admit that they've made mistakes, like removing PS2 BC from PS3, removing homebrew capability from the PSP, pricing their systems out of the reach of the average gamer and releasing the PSPGO. They need to eat some humble pie and get favour back with the gamers otherwise they're gonna keep on this slippery slope until their division fails, taking the rest of the company with it, since they'll be too arrogant to admit that it's failing and bleed money from the rest of the company to keep the Playstation brand afloat.
It doesn't help with the bloody PS3 fanboys eating up Sony's shit spoonful after spoonful. They just take it and keep coming back for more.

Re: Apparently piracy is the PSP's problem
Picked up my first PSP 1000 a couple of months back. Spent 2 hours modding the hell out of it, loading up emulators and what not. Started buying games for it a month later, mostly Atlus and NIS games, and always new. I only play on it that which I legally own and buy the games new because I want the developers to make more of them (and collecting).
Problem is that people like myself are Waldo, and I'm surrounded by people who play DS. And I don't have a nice red and white striped shirt to identify me.
I do believe that piracy on any system is a problem, but it's never the sole problem, just one of many. I'm sure on the PSP it's worse because it already has such bad sales. If a DS game is pirated say 10,000 times, that may be 5% of it's total out there. If a PSP game is pirated 10,000 times that could be nearly 90% of it's sales.

Piracy not the issue, selection of games, battery life and mainly the price of the PSP.

Re: Apparently piracy is the PSP's problem
my girlfriend bought me a PSP as a gift so even though I don't like it all that much, I can't sell it
only played 4 games on the thing (I own 8 thanks to finding used games for only 7€ when used DS games cost about 20+€ )
the machine had some true potential, but almost no developer played to it's strengths.
only Dissidia Final Fantasy, and Locoroco feel like real PSP games to me. everything else I've played feels like a PS2 game, minus the good controller.
Why don't more games take advantage of the wide screen? of the great D-pad and not of the horrible stick? of the connectivity it offers. also more 2D games. Megaman X, castlevania and locoroco are sweet on the system. LBP not so much cause it's like a half assed port of a much better PS3 game.

In the PSP's defense, I really enjoy playing Tekken: Dark Resurrection and Daxter on the thing.

The Wipeout games on PSP are some of the best Wipeout games period, Killzone liberation is nice. Gran Turismo mobile is good as a portable iteration but it falls short of what most people think of with Gran Turismo. Little Big Planet is a great companion to the big screen if you can't get enough of it. God of War COO is awesome as well. I enjoyed the MegaMan remakes as well.
Also it has Outrun 2006, which makes the PSP automatically awesome.

Older. Not wiser.

Why are you defensive about the PSP? We're discussing the future of the platform, and how Sony would go about ensuring its successor won't be stuck in last place (despite its really good sale figures). Nobody is saying the PSP is rubbish, though it most certainly suffered thanks a multitude of factors. I think one of them was Sony's focusing on the PS3 because it was a sink or swim situation for them (again, their fault for pushing their tech on the consumer)

Re: Apparently piracy is the PSP's problem
nah I don't think he's too defensive about the PSP. He makes good points.
Though I have to disagree with the LBP comment. While LBP is all about it's level editor, what was a pleasant surprise to me was how much fun and funny it's multiplayer is. Even with 2 people it's lots of fun, but when you get 4 people, specially around the same TV (and not through the internet) you'll laugh your ass off.
On the other hand, do to technical limitations, there wasn't a co-op option on LBP PSP which put off a friend of mine, who also owns a PSP, from buying it, even though he loved playing LBP on my PS3.

Yeah LBP is vastly superior on PS3. I got bored of the PSP version very quickly, the only reason you would play it is if you didn't have access to a PS3 and a copy of LBP.ZeroAX wrote:nah I don't think he's too defensive about the PSP. He makes good points.

Same goes for the wipeout games. Vastly superior on PS3 even though the first Wipeout HD is just Pulse with HD graphics (seriously, it's the same game, same progression, tracks and sleds). Even given that, it's still more fun to play on the PS3, no neck ache/hand cramps after about 30 minutes of play time.
