..and like I said, I haven't played all that many FPS games yet. I haven't even played the first Doom. But I think Doom 3 was brilliant. That's my opinion

The lack of PC games is disturbing... any list without Unreal Tournament is doomed

from the looks of things... he's only played console FPS games. From the last gen, Goldeneye being the only exception.

Yes, that's true. I liked Goldeneye a lot. But it wasn't until Black that I started to really get into FPS. Then I bought an Xbox and Halo... and it continued from there.

I don't feel I'm alone here. I think a lot of newer FPS gamers have never played an FPS with a mouse and keyboard.

Hmm...I would definitely suggest branching out to other consoles. Consider the other FPS of the Nintendo 64 for instance. GoldenEye 007 is excellent, but games like Perfect Dark and Turok 2 are definitely worth checking out, and I absolutely love Hexen on the N64, especially the split-screen multiplayer.

Also, if you really enjoy FPS, I'd definitely suggest you get a PC that's capable of running games from the last...fifteen years or so. Heck, pick any Windows OS and you'll have access to a bounty of games, be it the likes of Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of the Triads, Blood, Half-Life, Postal 2, Unreal Tournament, Aliens Vs. Predator 2, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, UT2k4, Battlefield 2142, Serious Sam, Painkiller, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Wolfenstein, and so on.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm interested in going the PC route but I think ultimately there's enough FPS games on the 360 and PS3 now to last me for the next 10 years!

You're not alone. It doesn't make it right, though. It's not quite as bad as a lot of kids having never seen Schindler's List, but it's the next rank down.

Sorry, but I was totally unaware that Schindler's List was the new Citizen Kane. And that it was somehow directly-related to the FPS genre. My bad
