Dreamcasts like to do this. Just buy another one and keep the old one for parts.
Re: dreamcast stopped reading games...
I can see why he would want to use Windex for the streak-free shine!
First thing I would do (after hoping that the lens isn't destroyed) is clean the lens. Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol of the highest percent you can get, very lightly dampen a Q-Tip and very lightly swab the lens.
After you clean it, try and play a retail disc (preferably in mint condition) and see what happens.

well put distilled water on a qtip and circularly clean the lense then push the mechanism to the center. if that doesn't do it i think that's it. also google. there have been alot of threads about this i think and your answer probably lies in one of them

If you can't get it working, I also suggest fixing/repairing rather than discarding. If you can't get it working, maybe you could find a Dreamcast with a blown power supply (or something) and swap the entire drive assembly out for a working one (or vise versa - put the good power supply in the other console).

Does the Dreamcast read any (not CD-Rs) original game or music discs?
The lens is probably already fogged up from the Windex. Normally not recommended but in this case may be a last chance. In a desperation measure you might try some Plastic Polish. Use sparingly, rub in, let fully dry then wipe off with a soft cotton swab.

+1 for isopropyl alcohol. I wouldn't try anything else other than as a last resort. If it doesn't work you can always buy a replacement lens.

hiya tommy , i would try a POT Tweak if all else fails.........i bought a Dreamcast off eBay cheap cause it was ' faulty ' and POT Tweaked it and now it works. Google around for a Tutorial.
