Beat em up games

Post by Jrecee »

Lets talk about beat em up games. I think this genre can make a comeback. I think the secret is not trying to make them too long, since they're best when played on 2 player, and typically you don't start playing games with friends with the intention of completing a 15 hour quest. I think branching paths is a way to solve this, you can get to the end of the game within a couple hours, but you have to play through a few times to see everything.

I'd like to see a dynamite dux sequel. I think this concept had a lot of unrealized potential. I think some company (pretty much anyone but sega) should bring back streets of rage. I'd like to see a power stone beat em up since Power stone 2 was like half fighting game, half beat em up. Seemed like a power stone 3 would continue that progression and just be a straight up 2 player beat em up game.

The problem with the beat me up genre, is it sucks ass in 3D, people need to put it on the a 2d plane, SOR style. I think it would be awesome to see a new Final Fight, in the same view as the snes ones, but using the SFIV engine.

Or better yet do something like the Rebirth series, that would be sick.

I thought God Hand worked pretty well for a beat em up. Beat the game so many times.

a well done River city ransom remake. the GBA one was ok, but i think a downloadable console version (wii ware, xbox..) with 4 players would be pretty sweet!

but yea...keep it in 2D.

God Hand is seriously underrated. That game is batshit insane. I love it, but I can see why it didn't have mass appeal.

Didn't Dynamite Deka/Die Hard Arcade do the whole "3D Beat 'Em Up" right?

I mean, granted, it was the exact same gameplay as a traditional Beat 'Em Up... but I think that's the point.

I agree with God Hand being an awesome beat em up game. Also I quite enjoyed Urban Reign. If the levels were larger and longer and the AI didn't cheat it would be even better. The brawling and combo juggling is well done and it's especially fun to play co op and pull off specials together. When the computer wasn't being a fucking dick by being either invincible or breaking through my attacks, everything worked well.

Amen to that.

I would buy that in a second.

I feel it did, at least, I always enjoyed those games. Granted, I don't think they hold a candle to SoR.

To be honest, this is my favorite genre of games. I still can sit down and play SoR2 anytime, anywhere. When I am away on business, I always make sure my laptop is loaded with Streets of Rage Remake and that I have my wired 360 controller. Seriously, classic SoR has a feel that no other beat em up has replicated. I can't wait for SoRR v5!

Incidentally, SoRR v5 has an SoR Maker in it. I can't wait to make my own levels.

Another modern beat em up I liked, which was 2D was Sengoku 3. That game was pretty sick.

Do hack&slash and spectacle fighters count?

Anyway, SorR V5 is all that I will ever need.
