I figured that it was some kind of d20 style system on Fallout 3, it's fine for melee weapons, but for guns, it just does not make sense. The original Fallout and its sequels handled weapons in a role playing game much better thanks to the AP system. With Fallout 3, one system is completely overpowered making fights completely trivial. The other is completely useless making fights much harder than they need to be.MrPopo wrote:There is a big difference between DX and F3. With DX you CAN compensate for the inaccuracy; wait before shooting for your accuracy to go up, also crouching increases it. There isn't really a way of doing so in F3. Plus, as far as I could tell DX's system was that accuracy = cone of fire. With F3 it seems to be more of a Morrowind-style "roll for hit" system. On Deus Ex, there is no automated aiming system so you just make do, however I never found it an issue on Deus Ex, I compensated for the inaccuracy. I still found weapons to be inaccurate on Fallout 3 even if I had a specialisation in them. VATS just works so well it's hardly worth bothering with any weapon specialisation and just focus on other traits.
Playing Halo combat evolved for the first time.

I remember growing bored up until I got to the Flood. So I thought it was a nice change of pace to be fighting against different enemies. It kept me interested in the game

Re: Playing Halo combat evolved for the first time.
When i got my xbox and halo 2 for xmas, i had been playing PC shooters up until this point (except for goldeneye on my n64). I really really enjoyed it because it took everything good about every FPS i had ever played, added some aliens, gave you really high jumps and the sword was totally cool to me at the time. It was a blast playing with others on split screen or system link. it was especially appealing to me because i was STILL on 56k at the time, like most of my friends, high speed wasnt really available in my area, so there was no way to play pc games online. I played Halo: combat evolved later and enjoyed it just about as much as the first.
halo 3 bores the crap out of me. its the same game with a few extra flairs. I do like playing online with my friends, though. If it werent for the multiplayer, that game would be boring as hell.
my favorite thing now about the halo series is trying to get outside of the levels in halo 2.

Yeah, the combat in FO3 is kind of broken like that. I am hoping it is improved for New Vegas. Of course, if stats have no bearing on combat then it is not an RPG. Or is it? I don't really know anymore.Niode wrote:I figured that it was some kind of d20 style system on Fallout 3, it's fine for melee weapons, but for guns, it just does not make sense. I first played Halo on my brother's recommendation. I wasn't exposed to any hype beforehand, and I found it to be an awesome experience - well, for the most part. The better levels are great and the lesser levels are bleh.
The ending sequence was particularly awesome for me.
As for the Flood, you can have some fun with them on co-op, at least. Me and my brother would often try to keep one or two of them alive but shoot their attacking arm off so they'd follow us but not be able to hurt us. Was fun to see how long we could keep one alive.
It's mostly worth buying for the multiplayer. To me Halo is a classic multiplayer game.
