Parasite Eve 2 and My displeasure.

Post by joehero »

I just finished up Parasite Eve, and what a great game that was. Great storyline, and cutscenes. I was excited to get into Parasite Eve 2, until I got passed the opening credits and cutscenes. The controls have changed! They used the same controls scheme that is used in Resident Evil, which is what keeps me from playing that also. Why couldnt they leave it the way was in PE1? Anyway, please tell me its just a learning curve and its worth it. I hope!

Parasite Eve 2 is one of my favourite ps1 games. I have the first game but I've yet to play it. I loved the environments and the story and it's the only survival horror game I can remember playing on ps1 that truly scared the hell out of me. I loved everything about that game and I still do. I've replayed that game more than any title I own. From what I understand, it's less the original parasite eve and more of a Resident Evil clone with "magic" and more interesting enemies.

RE style tank controls are not that difficult to use geez. They become second nature after like 5 minutes.

Really? Does that mean the enemies are more interesting than the enemies in the first Parasite Eve? Don't get me wrong, I liked that game and all, but the enemies were all like, "Large Rat" and "Large Bug".

They are much more disturbing monstrosities in this one. I think there are a lot of "large bugs" and the inevitable "large spiders" but there are a bunch of crazy things like mutated horse/cows(?) and different human mutations. I know they were more creative than the things i fought in the first two hours or so of the first game.

Parasite Eve 2 opted for more cinematic angles and the result is stunning. IMO, it's the most beautiful game on the playstation. However, cinematic camera angles make control systems difficult hence "tank controls."

Parasite Eve 2's staff included some of the Biohazard 1.5 original team, before they scrapped the project and started over with what we now know as Resident Evil 2 today. So you can see a pretty big Resident Evil 2 influence on the game.

Replaying it is worht it because there is tons of stuff to unlock and a few more types of modes to play. Normally all the currency you accumulate for weapons, items, and upgrades is usable in your next playthrough on the same mode. Of the unlockables, is a replica of squall's gunblade and is a blast to run through the game with. You can wield it as a sword, or a shotgun, or you can slash someone with it and fire it mid slash to blow chunks of mutated monster everywhere. Great fun!
