Re: CIB vs. loose
Well for me personally I only collect CIB for CD based games and Genesis/Master System. I like the cases for Sega games because it looks cool and neat, but for NES/SNES/64 I just collect cart only, though I agree with Anayo if I find a game with the box for cheap then I'll get it.

Re: CIB vs. loose
Yep, same for me. Disc-based games having cases is a high priority and carts if I can get it CIB great but not a big deal!!dsheinem wrote:I am not as picky with carts (all my NES/SNES carts are loose), but with disc-based games I want the case/box for protection and identification. Having a case/box is the only way you can tell what a disc-based game is when looking at a shelf.
What really irritates me are carts without labels on the side- N64, Jaguar, 32X, Gameboy, etc.

Re: CIB vs. loose
Almost 2000 posts here and you had to look up "CIB", an acronym that has been around for DECADES (way before cell phones)? Yeah, I had to pick on you as well...CRTGAMER wrote:Had to look it up, Complete in Box so hard to type?
Really I'm not the only one who googled that.
God I hate cell phone habit acronyms.
Okay enough of the rant.
A co-worker of mine told me of a story (Not ME just passing this tale on) where a father thought it meant Lots Of Love, used it as a common sign off for friends and family. After sending a condolence text to a friend with death in family ...........
As for CIB stuff, I just want Master System, Genesis/MD, Sega CD and CD/DVD games with their cases and manuals (for CDs/DVDs). I also like Game Boy and Game Gear games in the plastic cases (Also Wonderswan and NG-PC if possible). Everything else can be loose.

Re: CIB vs. loose
For me, it really depends on the genre of game. I like to have a complete copy (Boxed, with instructions (game included of course)) for most games that I am unfamiliar with. This is something that happened to me recently. I'm not really fond of RPG's, but there are a few that catch my eye. I bought Uncharted Waters for a very low price, thinking it may be one of those somewhat addictive games. Well, I was right, but I couldn't figure out the controls for the life of me, or what I should be doing in the game. That is when I started looking for CIB (Yes CRTGAMER, Complete In Box). CRTGAMER also pointed me to a website that I use every so often to track down the instruction manuals for game I have but don't have the instructions for.

Re: CIB vs. loose
I recently started aiming for getting N64 games CIB. I would consider doing it for SNES, but I already have too many SNES games to try and start now, so I'm not going to bother.
I've always tried to get disc-based games CIB. I'll make exception though, and occsionally pick up a disc-only copy if the price is right (Mega Man Legends 2 for 10 bucks? Not passing THAT up.).

Re: CIB vs. loose
like pretty much everyone else, CIB for disc games and loose carts for me. Though old boxes are pretty snazzy.

Now I feel dumb. I have no idea what OBO means.Breetai wrote:

As for the actual topic, I prefer boxed/cased games if the box is plastic. For cardboard boxes though, im not fussed. Considering how much I already travel between uni and 2 different homes, and being that i'll likely still have plenty more moves ahead of me, keeping those things in good condition sounds like hard work.

Hey, I edited that out of my post because I thought I looked like too much of a prick! Anyway, OBO is "or best offer". Pretty popular in classifieds. I often put that up when I sell things.alienjesus wrote:Now I feel dumb. I have no idea what OBO means.Breetai wrote:

Re: CIB vs. loose
There was a time when I really didn't care about this sort of thing and was just happy to get something I could play regardless of whether or not I had a box or instructions, but I've changed over time and now I will never purchase a game that isn't complete with box/case and instructions. They just LOOK better in cases/boxes and of course it's more practical as boxes/cases keep everything protected.
I'm not obsessed with all the extra promotional stuff that game with older games like registration cards, Nintendo Power ads, etc, because I see that stuff as generic crap that every game had. If a game had maps and extra stuff like that though(true for Zelda games and some rpgs), I definitely want those included.
I especially like getting cartridge games CIB simply because collections of loose carts are just too common. EVERYONE has loose carts lying around somewhere. Far more impressive to see a shelf full of boxed S-NES games or a nice collection of boxed Genesis games like in the picture someone previously posted in this topic. To me, that's a REAL collection. Just my opinion. A shelf full of loose carts says to me, "casual gamer, not a real collector". I know some would disagree, but like I said, ANYONE can have a collection of loose carts. A collection of CIB games is just more impressive from a collector stand point.
I'm quite fond of S-NES boxes. I have a small collection of S-NES games CIB I'm proud of. Some of the boxes have seen better days, but you can still see all the artwork and writing on them which is good enough for me. If I get really rich one day, I'd love to start a CIB Neo Geo collection
Now buying sealed games is kind of a more recent thing for me, but like someone else in this topic said, that is something I reserve only for games I really love. One copy to play, one sealed. Rarely will I like a game THAT much though.
