I play Madden online. I only buy Madden every other year. Now are they charging $10.00 per title? So if i buy Madden and lets say another sports game they make that cost me $20.00 10 ea to play online??? Also i am concerned what if I uninstall the game? Now do I have to pay another $10.00 dollars to get back online?

Don't worry sports games today and the rest of online games will soon follow. The main reason I bought a ps3 was the free online now the game makers want to charge? Server cost should be included in the pricing of the game and since madded or any other sports games do not change very much from year to year I think $60.00 (for a $10 trade in or a $3 valued used game later on) is way too much.

The interesting thing about this is the thing it will hurt the most is the Gamestop "New for $60, used for $55" segment. Second-hand stores will need to price their used games at a lower level if they want to move them. If you're not looking to get into the online multiplayer then this can work out in your favor.

This is exactly how I see it. All this means is that GameStop will have to charge $45 for used games instead of $55. If you are one of those that don't care to play certain games online, this'll be a great deal. I would have loved if I could have paid $10 less for certain games that I know I'll never play online.

If this catches on, it'll have such a minor effect that it won't matter. All it'll mean is that, if you buy used, you'll be paying $10 less at the register but an extra $10 online. I'm willing to bet that all this is really going to do is boost sales of Xbox Live and PSN cards.

You don't seem to be getting what they are planning. If you buy the game new, you're golden. I also suspect it'll be tied to a universal account, so if you uninstall the game and reinstall you can still play. It'll be no different than today's Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC. A card comes with the game, you use the code, and now your account has a feature enabled.

If, instead, you buy the game used you will have to pay to get that feature enabled. The goal is to discourage people who only buy used games. If you care about the online you'll buy it new, or wait until the used price gets low enough that used + online fee is still worthwhile to you.

As an aside, when this was announced I saw a lot of comments from the proletariate that games were too expensive, and the jump from $50 to $60 suddenly made games unaffordable, which is why they only buy used. I remember paying $70 for new SNES games, which ends up being $100 if you account for inflation.

Only if you buy the game used. If you buy the game new, you don't pay $10 and you get a one-time code activation.

As others have mentioned, this does affect the used market and the resale prices.

It's not the same because a used car is just that... a used car. It's likely not anywhere nearly as good as a new car. Thus the buyer understands that they are not getting the same quality as a new car.

I'm not talking about the exterior condition of either, since you can buy a new car that has a scratch on it... I'm talking about the drivetrain of the car vs. the actual game itself. A used game and a new game are the exact same thing. The game works the same and will always work the same. If anything, the analogy actually hold more truth: a used car has flaws, and so does a used game from EA!

Allegedly this is not a good idea as it will damage the contacts over time. Better clean the thing with alcohol or something like that.
