Wiimote + MAME = :(

Post by LCDSCREEN »

Oy, just a quick question. I hooked my Wiimote to my computer with BlueSoleil and GlovePIE, and it doesn't seem to be working with MAME. Works fine with everything else... If anyone knows of a fix that would be grrrreat.

I don't have the knowledge you seek, but are you trying to use it for light gun games? I can't think it would be good for anything but that.

Naw, I'm just trying to use it as a regular gamepad. I heard that newer versions of MAME have kept Wiimotes from working, so I just wanted to know if anyone's found a fix.

Tiny Dpad, not enough buttons and the extra hassle of fighting to get it to work? I'd think picking up a USB pad would be better. But not trying to crap in your thread sir. I'll leave it to anyone with actual suggestions on making it work or not. :)

Not sure how that would all tie together since you also need the light bar for the Wii controller to work. Although any set of small spot lights can be used for the sensors.

So how is your controller-lightbar-drivers set up on the PC?

You only need the bar for games that you point it at the screen. He just wants to hold the Wiimote on its side and use it as a gamepad. It's a common practice, and I'm surprised neither of you have hear about it before.

Okay looked this up:
http://www.wiiprojects.org/bluetooth.html

Looks like getting Mame to recognize the bluetooth connection will be the tricky part:

Well the plan was originally to use the Classic Controller, but I can't figure out how to get that running either... It would have been much cheaper than buying a USB pad, since the Bluetooth dongle only cost me $2.

I've already got my Wiimote hooked up to my computer. The second link doesn't really help since on that site the guy just sort of says that he can't get his Wiimote working with MAME and doesn't really say anything after that.

Maybe down the road Mame will direct support the Wii controller.
Would make sense for the light gun aspect and LCD monitors.

Meantime there are PC USB gamepads cheap out there.
