Yes we're all geeks, but are you happy with that?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You mean Nu-Metal? That's the only kind of metal that has any kind of mass appeal, at least in this country anyway.

REAL metal has no appreciation in the states outside of the internet as far as I can tell. Dark Tranquillity, Iced Earth, Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Dragon Force, Children of Bodom etc, etc, etc. I don't see these bands getting any kind of radio play. Not here in America anyway.

If it's longer than three minutes and actually has *gasp*a guitar solo, than it's too shocking for American listeners. I don't think the average Joe even knows what the different metal genres are, since most of what passes for metal in the radio today sounds exactly the same.

I guess I should be grateful that SOME kind of metal is on radios. Most genres of music outside of hip hop, rap, and pop(or what actually passes for these kinds of music these days)just get ignored.

I hate to sound so cynical and judgemental, and I don't hate all mainstream music, but again, this is sort of the reality of things. I'm a realist

Dragonforce is shitball metal. Nightwish too, actually. Boring, over-rated, etc. Dragonforce plays fast, but it doesn't sound good. That said, yeah, metal hasn't had mainstream appeal since Number of the Beast was a new album.

Down here in South Florida there is actually a LOT of geeks/nerds running about. It seems to be the latest adult fad. No one is really a 'oldschool gamer' though. When people ask me about myself I don't really indulge on my 'oldschool gamer' status mainly because I want to avoid the, "Oh shit man, I gots me the 360, we should play some Gears or something! And Live arcade is awesome!". Yeah, ummmmm.... no. I don't feel like getting in a 10 minute conversation about how "cool" Super Mario Bros. 3 was. Yeah I know, I remember when it came out. EVERYONE remembers when it came out (as long as they were alive).

the funny part is the 'Sega' t-shirt rarely tips anyone off... that's the other annoying part... IF I find a console gamer, SEGA is the last thing they'd ever dream of playing. It's Nintendo this and Nintendo that, and 'do you own an NES?'. Yeah asshole, I also own a Master System and PC-Engine... oh what are those? Don't worry, go play your Super Mario Bros. 3

but still everyone clasps on to the geek/nerd fad. The girls think its cute or something (I'm not lieing, nerds get ASS in FL). But everyone is that kinda nerdy, borderline, and definitly not a console game nerd. Its more, "I like compooters, I can download free music, I'm so 1337, what's a 'dualcore'?"

I'm left bored... that and no matter how nerdy any of them actually get, the two topics I like... NO ONE likes. Console videogames AND math. WHERE ARE THE MATH NERDS!!!!!? (toe-nail eating stalkers that look like bake potatoes don't count)

Overall, I like my geekiness. Cause I like me. And if you can't be happy with yourself, then what the hell are you doing it for?

Do you think one problem is geeks stay indoors too much to really be found? I know I do. But we all have to come out sometimes for work or class, and I still wasn't able to find many in either of those places.
Maybe they dont want to admit it either until they have wayed you up?

I dont mind being a geek at all really, I suppose I dont really like to broadcast it to people straight away. If I tell people that I'm a programmer, they normally say something like 'Really, I have this problem with my Email/USB dongle/Virus Killer/Not being able to find the simplest thing to help myself on google' which can get irritating but at least they arent looking down on me, like if I happen to mention that I understood algebra or something.

I'm happy being a geek with my geeky hobbies and my geeky job

People look down on me for everything. I'm fat, ugly, stupid, nerdy, and I listen to Thrash/Death Metal. I'm perfectly secure about my way of life, it'd be nice if people would keep their condescending views to themselves though. After hearing "You need a life.", "Hah! You're fat!" or, "You listen to the Devil's music!" You tend to get annoyed.

Ok metal snob, please don't derail threads. And don't assume I'm some kind of noob regarding the genre. I enjoy 4 of the bands you mentioned. I don't care how popular something is. If it's good, it's good. The end.

I love how you think someone is an asshole for playing Mario 3, lol.

I'm guessing he's referring to how Metalocalypse will (hopefully) reach out to the Family Guy crowd and change how they view Heavy Metal. Then again, it might make them think worse of us.

BTW, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, and Dragon Force are all over rated crap.

My, aren't we touchy? Derailing the thread? You brought it up.

And let's just state for the record, that you started the name calling here. I don't recall calling you a noob, but you called me a snob, I was just stating my opinions

Guess I'll keep my opinions on music to myself, didn't know we had such sensitive babies here.
