I notice a lot of people on here saying that they dont ever get to talk about games other than on the net. This is only partially true for myself - most of the people I know are console gamers that consider themselves hardcore but wouldnt ever consider buying anything other than a playstation - cos their mates brothers uncles dof played on a non sony system once and said it was a bit naff, and certainly wouldnt bother keeping anything that was last gen.
My boss is a devout PC gamer and queitly scoffs at me for the 'bits of tat' that I buy, although my other colleagues are a bit more sympatheic, one of them looks like he's about to buy a Dreamcast on one of our daily dinnertime trips to GameStation and he keeps talking about the VC games that he's played on his mates wii.
Other than that though I dont really get to talk about old games and consoles that much, is this the same for everybody?
I remeber talking to some stranger in the pub on new years eve just gone and we got talking about old consoles, couldnt get rid of him the rest of the nite because clearly nobody else had ever took the time to understand his anguish due to gis girl friend making him sell his SNES 2 (Very rare in the UK) and his PC engine to make room for her things
Are we all just geeks then?

I do a computer games programming class so there are a good few retro gaming people there. Other than that, I guess it would only really be my brother that I can talk to about the "classics", as we played most of them together at a young age.

I got no one to talk about games period! Internet only!
I used to have some mates at one of my old workplaces who were into gaming but I only get to chat to them via email. All my friends/family are just not into games. Which is a shame.

I actually had a discussion with a guy my age at work (he's about the only one on my floor that isn't 7 years older than me) about classic gaming. Granted, he's not nearly on our level, but we talked about NES games and some arcade stuff. It was refreshing, but it's not nearly like the conversations here.

I'm quite surprised by the number of people that dont have any real world friends that dont like games at all, most of the people I know play games on some level which I thought fairly encouraging that this great passtime has firmly embedded itself into the current culture in a pretty short space of time. Obviously I'm lucky enough to live in a place where this is true.

I have three older sisters and all of them have children aging from 14 down to 7. Every time they come around for a visit the kids will usually want to play a game, this is when I give them the choice between playing something new or old school . Usually they will want to play the game with the pretty graphics and vibrating controllers, but this only lasts for a couple of minutes before they come to me wanting to change games , that's when I put them in front of a nes or mega drive. That will almost always keep them entertained for hours if you let them keep going.
So to answer the question ...no I don't really know anybody that plays classic games. But I'm trying my best to instill in a new generation a love for retro gaming, and it seems to be working. A few weeks ago I put some emulators on their Xbox and a bunch of roms and they have been playing them pretty solid since. They have even managed to get their friends to play and like them too.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

a friend of mine's husband and i, along with another friend of ours, ALWAYS talk about old school gaming when we get together. my friend, unlike her husband, doesn't care for gaming and usually goes and does something else while we reminisce for hours at a time and we tend to forget that we didn't come to hang out with her husband! other than that and occasionally pestering clerks at a nearby retro game store, this forum is where i got to nerd out about games
