Guitar Games

Post by SpaceBooger »

I have a Guitar Hero II guitar and am thinking about getting one of the games for my PS2, but I have a question.
Some people say that Rock Band is better than Guitar Hero and that Guitar Hero World Tour is the best GH game.
So I am wondering can you play the band games solo with just a guitar, and what game should I get?

You should be able to use your Guitar Hero guitar on any Guitar Hero or Rock Band game and you can just play guitar on the full band games.

I personally prefer Rock Band of Guitar Hero, but only really because Guitar Hero seems to have a very steep learning curve, though I've only played GH2 and 3. I'd say just go for the one with the most songs you like on it.

It looks like you can't hotlink their image. Please save it and upload it here or to a place like tinypic.com

Agreed with Pulsar.

But I personally prefer Guitar Hero 5 because of the song list. My favorite guitar it the GH3 Les Paul, however it is incompatible with the original Rock Band and the first 2/3 Track Packs. And yes, you can play any "band" game with just the guitar, and it can be switched to bass in the menus for the full band games. Also, in Guitar Hero 5 you could have as many guitarists or bassists at once.

No it's not...

My GH3 Les paul works with Rock Band 1 and 2 and all the Guitar Hero games.

Personally, I'd avoid all the Neversoft Guitar Hero games. They suck. Guitar Hero 5 has finally sorted the difficulty levels out (if it's harder to play a song on expert than on a real guitar then they're doing something wrong) and god-awful vocals system. It's still not even close to comparing to Rock Band 2 though. It's very clear that Neversoft don't have the faintest idea of what makes a good music game, in fact I'd go as far as to say that the vast majority of them don't even understand the basic elements of music. That may have changed now since GH5 is an improvement. It shouldn't have taken them 5 games (GH3, GH:Aerosmith, GH:Metalica, GH: Greatest Hits, GH: World Tour) to get it right though... They should have stuck to making skating games.

Stick to the Harmonix developed games, such as Guitar Hero 1, Guitar Hero 2, Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2, get Beatles Rock Band if you like the Beatles, I don't, so I haven't bothered with it.

My opinion of Guitar Hero has really changed. I was obsessed with it when it was first released and I bought I, II, Rock the 80s, and III all when they first came out. Now the guitar just sits in the closet and whenever I think about the game I don't think about all the good times I had with it. I think of overwhelming Best Buy displays marketing a million shlocky ideas to get you to keep buying more Guitar Hero related crap. The series really did go downhill fast after Harmonix was out.

I own them all and can play either one (on medium) without a problem. My favorites are GH Metallica, Band Hero and Rockband 2. I play with a Peak fullsize guitar which is compatible with both GH and RB.
