Yeah, the floaty gameplay is one thing that really bugs me about the Halo series. I think they've finally fixed it in Reach but I'm just not interested in it. At all.

This topic makes me miss multiplayer games... I played the hell out of Halo multiplayer, but only got to try it system linked near the end of the game's lifespan, at some friends' college house, filled to the brim with roommates. It was amazing how extra players could breathe new life into the game I'd played to death and had given up on.

I didn't have much fun with multiplayer since until Left 4 Dead came out, simply because some friends hosted weekly sessions online. I can't understand for the life of me why people enjoy playing multiplayer games with complete strangers. I've enjoyed it from time to time (had a few good online sessions with strangers in Team Fortress 2), but as a whole the entire concept has driven me away from the genre entirely.

A good bulk of my game collection is three player or more multiplayer games (including nine Saturn controllers - one more to go), in the sad, sad hopes that I'll actually meet some local gamers to actually play them with. Figures that when I finally get the games I move to an area where I don't have the opportunity to play them.

That way, I know it will run on my hardware, and I won't have to use a keyboard and mouse, or configure a finicky USB controller to play the game.
I will choose PC or console depending on the game. I'm getting sick of FPS games, all these new ones seem kinda boring, but these days I'll choose to get a FPS on PC over a console. There are some weird exceptions though. For example, I got Bioshock for PS3. It just feels like a console type of game to me (if that makes any sense). When I finally pick up Bioshock 2, it'll be on PS3 as well. If I were to buy Modern Warfare 2 (which isn't likely to happen) it would most definitely be on PC.

I don't mind using a keyboard and mouse, but I don't care too much to play games sitting at my computer. That's the real downside for me. I played about half way through Fable on PC (since I didn't have an Xbox) and didn't mind using a keyboard/mouse, but I would much rather use a controller for such a game. Now that I have an Xbox (and since I've long lost my save data for Fable) I plan to play it on the console.

I don't care to always get the best graphics possible (which should be obvious since I'm a retro gamer) but some times it's nice. I got a free copy of World at War with my video card and was able to play it on full high settings. My friend, who at the time was playing it on 360, was blown away by how much better it looked on PC. That was a little gratifying, I wont lie.

IMO, Halo 1 on Xbox is the best fps of all time next to Goldeneye. Keep in mind, I'm not one of those Halo douches. I actually hated Halo 2 and Halo 3 wasn't that great either but the first one is amazing and still holds up today. It was also the first game I played on my Xbox back in 2001, beat it countless times since then.

PS: I actually hate shooters on PC (Unless I'm using a controller).
I also don't care for competitive multiplayer which is why I'm not into Call of Duty and stuff.

That's because BioShock was a console port.

blah blah blah blah half life is such a better game than halo! I mean yeesh! Forget bioschock, you gotta play system shock 2! Consoles suck for reals! HALF LIFE 2 IS THE MOST IMPORTANAT GAME EVAR!

I enjoyed halo 2 immensely when it came out. Played the first halo after the fact, and I was underwhelmed.

On entirely different note it pisses me off that people say "you should play THIS game because it is representative of a said genre because it is the most popular, or it is so innovative". It's a cliche laced response that dominants most discussion about games. We as a gaming community go into a spiraling stair of redundancy and mediocrity. Say what you believe because you have the conviction of it not because it is perceived as much. An example for me would be is that Call of Duty 1 was the game changer in modern first person shooters. Forget Half life, and Forget Halo. That's my goddamn view of the situation. Maybe people all think the same things? Are we all split into two camps? PC vs Console? Sega vs Nintendo? This is good vs this is bad?

I have gone way too far into a rant and this is off topic....
It just seems people talk about the things surrounding games over and over without actually talking about the games themselves. I realize the irony, but look at the amount of discussion in the genre forums compared to the What ever and Platform sections

The problem I have with Halo today is that it is no story driven, yes it has a story, but its not story driven. They give you go from a to b and fight the same enemy's who just run at you for hours on end, two was an improvement, I put off playing three for ages, started playing it a few weeks ago and I feel it still suffers this, and the fact that all three have the 'fire from the hip' style of shooting feels really dated.

The flood was the worst thing to happen to the series, it feels like a cop out every time I had to fight them.

I hate games when it feels like a chore to finish the level.

I like it better on Xbox. I've played both versions, but it works better on Xbox. Mostly because you need a really good PC to run Halo at a good framerate, for some reason. COD 4 and Farcry actually run better on my computer than Halo does, despite the fact that they have much better graphics, and are years newer.
So you don't like it for PC because the game doesn't run well your PC?
That's not the entire reason, although the poor PC optimization does bug me. I also dislike how the interface still seems "consoley". It seems to be a common problem with console game ported to the PC: they just don't feel right on PC.

Well I actually played it for the first time on PC, so I guess that's why I don't see that problem myself.

I really hated the flood in the original Halo. I think they were introduced very well in the game but every time they showed up again after that was just annoying. The Covenant were some of the most entertaining enemies I had ever faced in a video game. The flood, by comparison, were boring as shit

Halo 2 really killed the series for me. They put so much damn effort into the multi-player mode and then give us an unfinished campaign mode. That pissed me off. Also, despite my general disdain for all things competitive multi-player, I had friends who got me to play Halo 2's multi-player and it felt cheap to me. People one hit killing everyone with plasma swords and some of the dual weapon combinations were really broken

Also, there was a very impressive demo stage for Halo 2 that made the rounds on the internet prior to the game's release and there was NOTHING like that stage in the actual finished product
