Saturn swap trick TOC size
Saturn swap trick TOC size
I just picked up an old Model 1 Saturn and I'm using the single-swap method ( to play backups, and it works. I'm using Worldwide Soccer 97 to make the swap, but that game only uses like 53 minutes of the disc. When swapping PSX games you had to use an original with a TOC at least as large as the backup you wanted to play or it just wouldn't be able to read the whole disc. Is the same true for Saturn? I don't want to be at the end of a large game and have a disc reading error because the machine can't read past the 53 minute mark.

I don't think this is an issue for the Saturn. The reason is that you're only swapping it out so that it can read the security ring from a valid disc.
I think it goes like this:
You put the game you want to play. When the Saturn is seeking the security ring, you swap it out. After the read is done, you put the game back in.

indeed, it's only to bypass the protection the TOC doesn't matter for Saturn or PSone even. It didn't become an issue until the PS2
Re: Saturn swap trick TOC size
I'd like to add something that may be completely false.
Besides the TOC I do believe there is more on a disc that determines it's effectiveness with the swap trick. For instance, I use Virtua Fighter 2 every time and works fine. When I first got my Saturn I tried a few other games with not so great results. Games would have glitches in its audio and graphics.
I read on the internet somewhere that size of the disc and audio type made a difference, cant remember exactly what it was all about though.

I've got my crown and I've got my scepter.

After having problems with some games I tried to boot with the backup and wait for the Saturn recognize it as not being a valid game (can take up to 20 sec), then switch to the original and press reset before making the swap - and now they all work. So I guess the TOC really does matter after all.

So what would be a good game (of large size) to use then?

TOC doesnt matter.
I have 12 real games, when I get a new backup, I have to sit there and try different games until one will boot it. If you only have 1 real game, your pretty much fucked.

i think it has to with whether or not the game has wav audio or not, psx has this problem too.
