I like it better on Xbox. I've played both versions, but it works better on Xbox. Mostly because you need a really good PC to run Halo at a good framerate, for some reason. COD 4 and Farcry actually run better on my computer than Halo does, despite the fact that they have much better graphics, and are years newer.Ziggy587 wrote:I'll never play Halo on the Xbox. I picked up Halo 1 and Halo 2 as well for the xbox due to all good reviews. Halo 1 started out pretty good but once you get to the flood the game gets so repetitive you just don't want to play anymore. You go through room after room that look exactly the same clearing out the same enemies.
I don't even know if I will ever play Halo 2, as the entire series seems to be the same thing over and over, same enemies, just rinse and repeat. I enjoy the Half-Life series a lot more.

That's cool, it's just that when someone talks about some popular shooter being better on PC it often does lead to a bunch of stuff about how shooters rock on pc and suck on consoles and that usually annoys me. I've never had a problem with people preferring their shooters on PC though. It's just that whole "shooters on consoles suck" thing that annoys me.Ziggy587 wrote:I thought the single player was alright, nothing special but not bad. The atmosphere was different, especially after the flood comes. Playing the game online, however, was a lot of fun.
There's also the fact that Halo CE was the first time I played it, and I ignored every one that couldn't shut up about Halo, so it was over hyped for me. It was what it was.
Nope, nothing to do with that. The PC version was a lot better. I'm not a PC elitist. I do admit, after getting use to the keyboard and mouse for shooters I don't much care for console shooters anymore. But I also don't care for most FPS these days anyway. Also, I play WAY more on consoles than PC.Gamerforlife wrote:Uh oh, here we go. Incoming PC ElitismZiggy587 wrote:I'll never play Halo on the Xbox. I do, however, love it on the PC. So you don't like it for PC because the game doesn't run well your PC?BoringSupreez wrote:I like it better on Xbox. I've played both versions, but it works better on Xbox. When I first got it for PC it wasn't playable for me, actually. I had a 1.5Ghz P4, 512MB RAM, and a GeForce 5200 FX. Upgraded to a GeForce 7600 and it ran perfectly fine despite the other low specs. Eventually that computer was upgraded to a 3Ghz P4 and 1GB of RAM and I was able to run the game with more detail.

The game runs great for me and looks and controls a little better than the Xbox original. I have fonder memories of playing on Xbox, but it was a fresher game back then and we had 12 guys in a room, with all of their Xboxes linked across 3 TVs with 4 guys on each screen. That's just a hell of a lot more fun than playing some obnoxious tweens online that curse at you in squeeky voices. Halo on the Xbox was probably the most fun I had on a local multiplayer FPS since the days of GoldenEye on the N64.
I never played the single player campaign until recently though, other than maybe an hour of co-op with a friend. Oh yeah, I think the PC version lacks co-op, which is too bad. I was enjoying the single player campaign for awhile, but the farther I get the longer and more repetitive the levels seem to get. I kind of just stopped playing at some point, even though the story was just starting to get interesting. It was just too much rote gameplay.

Well actually, the only reason I got the game is because a few of my friends wanted to play online together so I decided to get in on the action. There were 5 of us that played constantly. And although I set the rooms up for the max amount of players, any one that was immature (or just pissed some one off in one way or another) got kicked/banned.J T wrote:That's just a hell of a lot more fun than playing some obnoxious tweens online that curse at you in squeeky voices.
And to be honest, I never had much of a problem with annoying kids while playing Halo online. There wasn't any voice communication in the game (though we used 3rd party software for it) so there wasn't any annoying kids screaming obscenities at us. The only immature things I saw that got on my nerves was when the kill/death count was displayed at the end of a game. There'd always be the one person, "Yeah, MOST AMOUNT OF KILLS!!!1!!" and I'd say, "Yeah, but we were playing capture the flag. You didn't score once, so actually, YOU LOST!"
Re: Playing Halo combat evolved for the first time.
I remember my first year at University we networked 3 xboxs together with a switch and 3 TVs. It was fucking epic. Best console multiplayer I've ever played. Even if the game isn't fantastic you gotta love playing capture the flag with 12 players. What a rush.J T wrote:The game runs great for me and looks and controls a little better than the Xbox original. That was the best thing about University, being able to find loads of people with an xbox. This was when the 360 had literally just launched so a lot of people still had their xbox.

Re: Playing Halo combat evolved for the first time.
I always play games on consoles if I have a choice; regardless of if the game is better on the PC. I just like games being standardized to a platform. That way, I know it will run on my hardware, and I won't have to use a keyboard and mouse, or configure a finicky USB controller to play the game.Ziggy587 wrote:I thought the single player was alright, nothing special but not bad. Halo 3 is probably the most boring fps I played in years. Granted there are much worse games but reviews tend to warn you not to go anywhere near them. Auto-aim galore, floaty gameplay, uninteresting storyline/characters. Driving the warthog in MP Halo 1 was fun for a while, but it's not my "scene".
