Bought a Saturn, now looking for some info/advice on Sega

So I'm wanting to get a Sega Saturn. I had one when I was younger and while it was never my favorite system, I did spend a lot of time with it and there are a few games I would like to have.

I read through the guide in the 101 section for the Saturn but still would like some help.

I've read a lot of talk about different models, controllers, and the like so I just want to make sure I know what to look for.

I just want a system to play US releases (live in the US). I won't be modding it or anything I just would like the most reliable model (if there are differences). So I would like info on which model would be best (most reliable), controller (standard one?), cable to get best picture (S-video?), and a rough price range for the system, controller, and hookups.

I'm just trying to gather the info right now, not looking to purchase (I'll post in the BST when I know what I need).

Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm a Nintendo guy and my knowledge is very limited with Sega stuff!

If you're not going to mod it, then it probably doesn't really matter what model you get, but definitely get the model 2 controller (it's the same as the Japanese Saturn controller) as it's generally considered the best controller ever made for 2D games (it totally is too).

As for the best picture, that would be RGB through a SCART cable. Since you live in the US, however, where we don't have SCART connections, the only way you're going to be able to use that signal is by getting a SCART to component or HDMI converter (this can get a bit expensive). You'd probably get by fine with S-video, though.

So the model doesn't matter and S-Video. That takes care of 2 things. I've been down the RGB/SCART road with my N64 and I'm not messing with that anymore. S-Video will do just fine. I imagine I will have to find this cable separately? I'm assuming the Saturn wasn't packed with it.

So how much am I looking to pay for saturn, controller, and hook-ups?

It's not likely that someone selling a Saturn will have an s-video cable. But yes, they are available on ebay and surely other places too.

$40 to $60 seems to be about the standard depending on what your getting and how outrageous people want to gouge you for on ebay shipping wise.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I went to my local game store just now and they usually have no Saturn stuff in stock. They had one today and it was in pretty good shape. So I got it.

I don't know what model it is considered.. it says Model No. MK-80000. If someone could inform me on that I'd appreciate it.

Anyway I got the system, 2 controllers (not the model 2 ), hook ups, and Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition (a game I REALLY wanted) for $30.

So now I need to replace the controllers with model 2, buy an S-video cable and get some more games.

I know I want Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, and Sonic 3D Blast. I need some recommendations, especially platforming games!

don't get rid of your m1 controllers if you want to play bomberman with a multitap!

saturn runs alot of games arcade perfect if they use the ram. look into getting a AR 4 in 1 it does imports, cheats, ram 1mb and ram 4mb and saves files!

And I did see those Action Replay carts... sounds like a must have. Are there different variations of them? Thanks for your help!
