PSone Controller Help

Post by Gnashvar »

I recently bought a used PSone. It works fine with the controller that came with it. One of the regular non dual shock one. When I try using any dual shock the controller just doesn't work. Any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it? I'm guessing the dual shock uses more wires or something and something may be dirty or cut?

P.S. It does power because I can push the analog button and it goes red.
Thanks everyone...

Make sure the game you are using to test your controllers supports Dualshock. The Playstation games that came out prior to the release of the Dualshock don't support it. Final Fantasy VII and the ported collections, Grand Theft Auto, the Oddworlds, lots of games have no support for the analog functions on the controller. And if you do activate the Dualshock and make the light go on and try to play any of these games, you get no response from the controller. Try shutting off analog and see if perhaps the controller will work.

Thanks I didn't think of the game. I'll try it out. I tested with Megman X 3. I tried 2 dual shock and one regular one. Only the regular one worked. I'll test with another game.

Never owned a playstation btw.

Tested with Crash Bandicoot 3 and no luck. With or without analog on. This is weird. I unplug the dualshock and plug in the regular one and it works right away. Something funny with the dualshocks.

Ok checking dualshock models. The one I'm sure works is a SCPH-110 which I think is a PS2 model so that could be the problem. The one that came with the PSone is a dual shock but I think it's broken or something because the cable feels funny. I guess I better find a PSone dualshock that works to test it.

Does it work if it's plugged into slot 2?

I've used my dualshock 2 on my PS1 and vice versa. I'm sure they're backwards/forwards compatible.

Are you using a PS1 or PS2 Dual Shock?

If it is a PS1 controller, try another one to confirm if yours is bad or not.
Also confirm game works dual shock on friends PS setup.
