eventually i'd like to get all of my backups in slim DVD cases with hi-quality covers in them just for aesthetic shelf appeal, but that's a few years off anyway i'm sure.
Your Idea Of Collecting
i always like finding stuff in the wild but i never buy it, haha. i'm to the point where i only have like 4-5 games that i have always LOVED and keep those just as display pieces in my entertainment center. other than that i'm through with trying to "collect" stuff.

I goto arcade auctions for my collecting and part of the joy is you never know what will be there. All it takes is one good deal or find, and it keeps you coming back for more. I mean, Strikers 1945+, Mark of the Wolves AND a working orig. 4 slot NeoGeo for $80?!? You can't pass that up.
I have a buddy that hits all the pawn shops once a week, and one of them sell their PS1/2, DC, Xbox games base on the release year. i.e. <1999 = $2, 2000 = $3, 2001 = $4, etc. Guess what year Castlevania: SotN came out...yeah $2. Then he goes right back to a mom and pop game store that KNOW what things sell for and trades them in.

I think that if you pay a high amount for items to go towards your collection it doesn't exclude you from being a collector. However, I do think that collectors who hunt out their items at a lower cost earn themselves bragging rights.
The one (extreme) exception to this of course is the people who buy the premade auctions on eBay. If you buy a collection, that DOES exclude you from being a collector as you haven't at all bothered to put in the time/effort yourself.
