Really enjoying The Suffering on PS2

Post by Scooter »

I hope the sequel is at least as good since I just bought it online tonight. The Suffering got middle of the road reviews but I've found it to be a pretty darn good game. Interesting storyline, many and varied environments to explore and numerous ways to accomplish things (be good, be evil) with good story oriented extras. The controls are pretty good and the story keeps me driving forward. I typically don't rip through games but I've come close to completing the game and I've only had it a week. I'd even go so far as to suggest the game deserves a mention on the Hidden Gems page.

To be honest, it doesn't really bring a lot new to the table, but the game takes tried and true themes and gameplay and does them well and wraps it all up in a very nice package. Not a lot of games actually pull that off even if they are good in general. I guess the bottom line is, I really haven't yet found anything about the game I don't like.

I love both games. I think you will enjoy the sequel.

I played the first one back in the day on the xbox. With a good home theatre system it sounded amazing. Eerie and scary as hell. As the game wore on and I got less frightened, I still managed to enjoy the games solid mechanics. All round I found it to be an enjoyable and memorable game.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I remember playing this back in the day. I think I made it up until the part where you first see what im guessing is the main enemy? The gorilla type monster. He scared me so much that I had to turn it off AHHA. I love survival horror games but I just get too scared to play them. I wish I had more balls to finish this one as it does look very promising.
Never did try the sequel.

On this playthrough I'm shooting for the "good" ending. I might play through again and get the "evil" ending. This time through I've also avoided using the insane rage aspect of the character and stick to keeping him human and using weapons. Thus far no problems. Might not be the case with the final boss. I've been precariously close to running out of all types of ammo a couple times (like the fight with Dr. Killjoy). Might be fun to play through the game again using the insane rage thing anytime it is possible. Sure would save on ammo! But then at the normal setting, finding ammo isn't usually a problem.

Some people on GOG just posted that the PC version of this game is free.

I'm looking forward to playing it after your positive review. I always passed it by in the used bins before.
