I'm not sure 'bout the "Ring" games, but I find "The Hobbit" for Xbox1 to be mildly entertaining
suitable for kids all ages, actually
much like the book
(and *that* ladies and gentlemen, was the first and last time I ever said anything good regarding anything that has any connection what-so-ever to any of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's books, besides the books themselves)

The Two Towers and Return of the Kings games are fun Action RPGS. They are not good Tolkien games, but they are good games. The Battle for Middle Earth series is alright aswell. Surprisingly the Fellowship game for the SNES is a solid ARPG (and four player to boot). Just stay away from the old pc games.
Lets be honest, it would be impossible to make a Tolkien movie or game that is acceptable to everyone. Peter Jackson made some fine films, but they were not the same as the story I read when I was a kid - and they never could have been. But I still enjoy watching them ever year.

I enjoyed the LORT: Return of the King PS2 game. Although, playing as different characters in missions (ie. playing as Frodo in an Aragorn mission) seemed broke. One of the Aragorn missions I couldn't beat with the Hobbits because they weren't fast enough.

Most of the PS2 titles are good. At least good enough to warrant a bargain bin purchase.
