So no one here hooks up audio via HDMI? It would be nice to play 360 games in surround, without shelling out for new speakers. Do laptop HDMI ports only carry video or is audio supported too?

Depends on the graphics card. All ATi cards have supported audio over HDMI since at least the HD4xxx series, maybe earlier, I just know for a fact that my HD4870 does it.
