Five years from now when support is dropped? I'll get cracked almost immediately. Hell, if I recall right I think there are cracks out there right now that let you play Steam games without the Steam client running. That's the beauty of an open platform like the PC.CRTGAMER wrote:Just hate the notion of a purchased game being a "Rental". Everything moves on, older support gets dropped. Consumers shouldn't have to go that route. I don't support DRM games because of that.
Should all be boycotted just like those goofy Music CDs Sony tried a few years ago.

I remember one of those things froze up my computer completely and all I wanted to do was listen to it I wasn't trying to burn it I didn't even own a cd burner at the time, never heard about the class action suits though.CRTGAMER wrote:Consumers shouldn't have to go that route. Exactly. Just because there is a workaround doesn't make it OK to support it. Another example of this are songs with DRM from itunes. Sure, you could buy a song, burn it to a CD and then rip it back into itunes and that'll remove the DRM but you shouldn't have to do that in the first place. Boycott the fuckers. Give me the product I want or you will get no money from me.CRTGAMER wrote:Consumers shouldn't have to go that route. I don't support DRM games because of that.

Re: Ubisoft to switch game manuals to digital only
I have nothing against companies protecting themselves from piracy in principle, I just don't think the methods they use to do that should negatively affect the product of paying customers. I don't think DRM is inherently bad, it's just that so many of the DRM technologies have sucked (Starforce, SecuROM, Disk Checks, etc.). Steam offers enough pros over its DRM cons for me to really care (except for games where the publisher adds additional DRM beyond the need for Steam). Still, nothing beats www.gog.com where there isn't a single game with DRM.

I have an internet PC, it's just not used for games.ZeroAX wrote:BoringSupreez wrote: PC games will probably continue to have manuals, because they usually have troubleshooting and installation instructions. And I hate the whole DRM thing. Like I've said before, I bought the 360 version of The Orange Box just to avoid it. My gaming PC doesn't even have an internet connection. That way, I don't have anywhere near as big a chance of getting virus's. It's worked so far. Years later, it still runs like new, with the outdated antivirus software that came with it free in early 2007.
you do know that's like saying you won't have sex for your entire life so you don't get STDs right?
That's a big reason I don't want games with DRM. It's called futureproofing.CRTGAMER wrote:Just hate the notion of a purchased game being a "Rental". Everything moves on, older support gets dropped. I don't see how that's any different than when you have to run third-party software developed by some dude in his basement to run older Windows games.CRTGAMER wrote:Consumers shouldn't have to go that route. I don't support DRM games because of that.

Re: Ubisoft to switch game manuals to digital only
The original "DRM" PC games had code wheels, match word in manual or a red book with red plastic filter. A pain, but even though game company folded and support went away, that older game can still be played. Unlike the current DRM "Rental" games. One can keep an older PC for the older games or for newer computers, use DOSBox or simply having multi removable drives/partitions for various operating systems.GSZX1337 wrote:I don't see how that's any different than when you have to run third-party software developed by some dude in his basement to run older Windows games.CRTGAMER wrote:Consumers shouldn't have to go that route. My not download, but store bought Half Life 2 is also a temporary, if Valve goes out of business. Consumer shouldn't have to obtain a crack to enjoy a purchased game years later. Console download "Rentals" are the worst, because of the closed architecture with update "cancel your crack" patches.

It's a damn shame that so many people don't care and keep supporting these bullshit "rental" games.
