Why Wii play

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Of the three next gen consoles which would you buy? If you own one pretend you don't for a moment.

Why Wii play

Post by Droid party »

Well I don't play it that's kinda the point of this, what I want to know is why do people who play Wii do so?

I live in a small place and the thought of flailing my arms around like I'm being attacked by a swarm of bee's just doesn't really appeal to me ( far too lazy ,I like sit when I play). Now it's not a case of I don't like the Wii but I am hugely surprised to see how popular it has become. I personally have never even seen one up close so I could be missing out on something great but don't know it.

Also it is a slower machine than the other two and from what I've seen in the brochures from the local stores where I live it isn't all that much cheaper than a 360 .

So why if you have a Wii or want a Wii , why do you like so much over the others?

Wii is fun for parties, etc. playing with your girlfriend (or anyone who's not a traditional gamer). Other than that, I don't have much use for it. That said, I'm dying to play Metroid Prime 3... I'll borrow a friend's system to play it though.

I tried Zelda on Wii but I prefer the traditional controls of the Gamecube version.

Yeah but I don't really break out the games at parties, However it is still the system I'm most likely to buy, but I don't know why I feel that way.

I really don't know right now.
There's no way I would get a PS3 -- even if it was $200. Nothing interests me there.
There are a few games on the 360 that interest me and the XBLA is rockin' But the price is still a bit high and the hardware issues really turn me off.
The Wii interests me for party games, but that's about it. For most other games, I'd be perfectly happy with Gamecube installments.
If you held a gun to my face, I would probably pick the Wii due to its price, elegant hardware and Gamecube support.

So I really don't see myself buying a new console anytime soon. My DS teamed with my older machines is more than enough to keep me happy.

Ditto to all but the DS.

The PS3 is way too pricey , I mean I looked at it and thought ...well it's about the price of a cheap blueray player so that kinda makes it worth the price but I really don't want to buy a blueray player anytime soon anyway.

The X360 is fast and cheap but the whole melting itself thing would probably get a bit boring .
I hope that Microsoft bring out the 65nm cpu in February like they say they will.

Now the Wii like I say ain't all that much cheaper. While eating breakfast I looked through a catalogue of a local store and they had a Wii and X360 for the same price ( bar maybe about ten bucks) the Wii came with a game and an extra controller and the 360 came with 2 games.

I got a PS3 because I'm a slave to Insomniac games. I've been playing their games since the first Spyro the Dragon. Unfortunately, I haven't played too much on it, but I have been using it as a Blu-Ray player. :D

The thing is, that is simply not how a Wii is played. That has to be one of the biggest gaming myths.

I own a decent amount of varied Wii titles and not a one do I play in any other position other than laying on my couch like every other console. The only games that are going to get you on your feet are multi-player party style ones, and even then you are moving for the fun of it when you could still sit down and "cheat" it when you are alone.

I don't think I have ever been asked which console to buy by anyone other than a total outsider to games looking to buy their first console. Anyone else has a pretty good idea of what Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are about, and make up their own mind. So to someone that has to ask, I advise an Xbox. Even though I bought a Wii, an Xbox is the closest console to being everything to everyone. It has more games, more playing options, more accessories, more home theater options... really just more of everything. There are stylistic variances among the consoles and their games that are legitimate differences for people in the know, but if you are starting from scratch, just get a 360.

i have a wii and i'm loving it. wii sports is awesome for parties/girlfriends/etc (i.e. people who don't normally play video games) and they're not too bad for time wasters on a rainy day. i love super paper mario and i think the control schemes for resident evil 4 and metroid prime 3 are genius. red steel and call of duty, not so much :? i'm excited about the virtual console offerings especially if they start putting out some of the more rare stuff ala sin & punishment. wiiware looks promising too.

that being said if i HAD to choose one and price wasn't an issue i would totally go with the 360 with an HD DVD attachment if i were just gonna get it for me. so many games interest me and most of the XBLA stuff blows the PSN and VC stuff away. but fuck man, halo 3, blue dragon, lost planet, gears of war, bioshock... that's just the tip of the iceberg for me. there aren't many ps3 titles that really excite me that i couldn't pick up for 360 if i had one.

so my choice is the wii since i've got one but if i certainly wouldn't mind having a 360 right now.

I'm not asking anybody which one I should buy because at the moment I don't want any of them. I'm simply trying to ascertain why the wii has had such prolific success and what it means to different people.

Besides I have never asked for or listened to anybodies "advice" regarding which to buy in the past and am not about to start anytime soon or ever.

If I do buy one it certainly won't be my first console , I currently have six hooked up to my TV not including my PC and countless others sitting in drawers and closets.

Anyway thank-you for pointing out the flailing misconception, that was the point of this, satisfaction of curiosity and such.
