But what games from the pioneering console do you think still hold up best today?
If you are thinking of arcade game, think about how good the port was.

Adventure - The graphics don't even try - you get to be a square and like it, but there is a surprising amount of game there.
Pressure Cooker - After the countless games that have come out since the 2600 this one still manages to feel unique.
Cosmic Ark - No matter what decade you're in there's something to be said for abducting helpless alien creatures.

Keystone Kapers
Warlords (with multiplayer)
CIrcus Atari
Yar's Revenge
Solaris
Dodge 'Em (two player)
Haunted House
Armor Ambush
Breakout
Chopper Command
Fishing Derby
Frogs and Flies
Maze Craze (good two player)
Montezumas Revenge (better as a full fledged 8-bit gen title, but really good on the 2600)
Pitfall II
Turmoil
I attempted to list games, I believe, which are still worth playing. And I guess, with a system so antiquated and limited as the 2600, thats the criterion for greatness. I've also ignored all arcade ports, since, you might as well play them on MAME, or somesuch (despite some excellent ones, such as Asteroids and Battlezone). There is an exception, I would be totally remiss not to include Warlords; easily the best multiplayer game on the system (four people).
And, I've tried not to include the excellent titles others have already mentioned.
