Know what you mean, wife got fooled to click Digital Protection "Anti Virus" Trojan. Took 3 hours to get rid of it, would love to tie down that Trojan scammer jerk dripping in honey to a fiery ant hill.

Why did you update? You can still use 3.15 on PSN using a DNS redirect, if you're desperate to use PSN then you could set 67.202.81.137 as your primary DNS in your connection settings.
Actually, this doesn't seem to be working anymore; I'm been trying to log into PSN through this method, and right now, it's not working. It was working fine before, I wonder if the server's just down temporarily.

EDIT: Well, it seems that Sony has done it again. Now all proxy/DNS tricks to bypass firmware updates have been rendered useless. I just hope GeoHot hurries up and releases that Custom Firmware.

Seriously? Are there lots of reports or is it just your PS3? I haven't tried my PS3, I have been too busy playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on my 360. Have you tried to use ps3 proxy gui? It seems very strange that Sony have started actively stopping people altering the DNS settings to bypass the firmware check since this method of bypassing updates and accessing PSN has worked for over a year on PS3/PSP now.

Look around the internet; lots of people are having trouble with it. This just started today, apparently. I'm sure someone will figure out a new method to bypass it in the meantime.

I don't get it. Wonder why all the push to get rid of Linux. Maybe there is a serious loophole for developers that Sony trying to lock out.

Anybody hear of new successful work-arounds?
NES | SNES | Genesis | PSOne | Saturn | N64 | Dreamcast | Gamecube | XBox | PS2 Phat w/HDLoader | PS3 Slim| Wii
GBA SP | PSP-1000 | WiFi-iPad 16GB(Is this a game system?) | Modded PS1 | PS Vita 3G

Don't think there is one until we get the CFW from geohot. They've obviously updated PSN to check your PS3s version before allowing access (the opposite of what happened before). Without an ability to spoof the version number of the PS3 I'm not sure there is a way. I might do a bit of packet sniffing and see if I can spoof the information going back to PSN but it's unlikely since this kind of workaround hasn't worked on the PSP for quite some time now.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this is the relative ease that geohot has demonstrated in getting this hack to work. He has literally just added the options back into the menu. Which means that the only thing that Sony has done in this 'update' is remove a couple of bytes of information...

Do you think it would be possible to "update" now and later be able to use the CFW to add the "link" back into the system? I'm going crazy not being able to use my PS3!

Geohot mentioned that his modified pup file will only be installable from 3.15 since the PS3 will not downgrade it's firmware. Apparently the PS3 just thinks that it's a normal PUP updater and updates the firmware.
