Panzer Dragoon Saga

Post by megatron-uk »

I finally got a copy of this on ebay - I wasn't willing to pay the £130 of most of the BIN listings, but picked up a 'relative' bargain that literally just ended early this morning for £76 (~$110).

It's complete and looks in pretty good condition, so I'm really quite happy! :D

Who else has got this massively hyped game, and is it really as good as everyone says it is?

I love the other 3 games (Dragoon, Zwei and Orta) and think they're really stylish, despite the relatively limited gameplay.

Just don't play the first two on a big screen modern tv, the 3D engine has not aged well! Orta, of course, looks lovely.

I'm interested in seeing how this plays.

That's why there's the Sega ages version. ;) don't know about Zwei, though.

Pity Sega only used the Windows port for the Sega Ages version. Still looks better than the Saturn original (How thoughtful of them to include both on the disc!). Zwei didn't have any ports but you can always watch gameplay videos on Youtube. I don't think it's a huge departure from the original in terms of visuals. Still, it looked pretty neat at the time.

Oh and I tried PDS on SSF a few years ago.. I'm one of the few who aren't really into it. Image

I haven't played Zwei, but I heard that it was better, so I'll check it out. I liked the first one, but I got tired of having only three lives (It was three right?) with no saves. I didn't know how to get continues, so I used a level select cheat and went through each of the levels.

I haven't tried PDF, I'm not into RPGs. I've been meaning to check out more RPGs and learn more about them. The only ones I'm familiar with are FF1/2 for the GBA, FF8-X-2, Super Mario RPG, and Legend of Dragoon. (I think I might revisit that game) I want to play Atelier Marie, but the translation isn't finished, yet.

How was the emulation on PDS? I emulated Hyper Duel (not full screen) and it played well, with some occasional slowdown. I wish you could apply filters. :(

Hey, the world would be a pretty boring place if we all thought the same way!

Wish you would've told me that before I started on my global mind control device.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is definitely in my top 10 games -- I don't know of any RPG that PLAYS better than Panzer Dragoon Saga. The story is very good, above competent, but the hook, line, and sinker are that I was actually excited for random battles -- they are FUN. The universe you explore is absolutely incredible; surreal, gorgeous, and incredibly realized, and I literally found myself just flying around and exploring instead of continuing the story on multiples occasions -- the game was good enough that I didn't want it to end, which is unfortunate because it's damned short. I'd say that although it's apples to oranges to strawberries to watermelons, Panzer Dragoon Saga should have been going toe-to-toe with Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Half-Life for game of the year in 1998.
