Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
I dont understand, why people dont give a shit either. Alot of people must have some pretty sore knees!
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
It's a really good point not just on consumer rights is that if you let people take the piss out of you they will its as simple as that.Niode wrote:Well I honestly hoped that people would give more of a shit about their rights as a consumer instead of bending over and taking it from Sony. They'll just keep doing it if they know they can get away with it. If people are content to be shafted by Sony then that's your problem. I stand up for my rights and I don't take shit from any company. After working several years in customer support you learn the tricks these companies love to use to keep you complacent. It's always bait and switch tactics with these companies.
Take a well known ISP in this country, they trained us to just give a customer free month of ISP if they were having troubles. Just to placate them into staying with us, even when we had defaulted on the contract on our (the companies) side. It doesn't solve anything.
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
I wonder what percentage of PS3 owners has used this option ?
I'd be ready to sign a class action suit if a firmware update removed PS2 functionality but the alt OS option I won't ever use so it's hard to get miffed at.
to me it's like saying I'm being "bent over" because a box of laundry detergent show'd blue powder on the box but inside it was actually white.

Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
It would be more like if you bought a tub of laundry detergent that came with a handle, and then after you bought it, someone from the laundry detergent company came into your house and broke off the handle. Sure, you can still wash your clothes just fine but it's still not right for them to do that. The fact that it's a minor thing doesn't make it acceptable.nate wrote:I wonder what percentage of PS3 owners has used this option ?

How much is the Other OS feature worth, if we had to decide on a dollar amount? Let's go with $5. Sony has pretty much gone into the bank account of all of the PS3 fat owners and stolen $5 from them. Yeah, $5 isn't that big of a deal but it's simply wrong for them to take it like that.
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Other than the issue I have with the stealing analogy (because Sony isn't actually gaining money out of the removed functionality) I'd like to point out that to people that are actually using the feature and really want to keep it, Sony is actually removing the "feature" of playing newly released games and connecting to the PSN. That should be worth a bit more $ in terms of total worth, and I don't think it would be entirely "fair" to only compensate users on the loss of the small-$ functionality.Inazuma wrote: How much is the Other OS feature worth, if we had to decide on a dollar amount? Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Exactly, that is the problem we're faced it's no use going "blah blah Sony are giving you a choice, stop being a cry-baby" since it's a lose/lose situation regardless. I keep Linux I lose new games. I choose new games I lose Linux. What exactly is in it for ME the CONSUMER? Absolutely god-damn nothing.Ivo wrote:Other than the issue I have with the stealing analogy (because Sony isn't actually gaining money out of the removed functionality) I'd like to point out that to people that are actually using the feature and really want to keep it, Sony is actually removing the "feature" of playing newly released games and connecting to the PSN. Niode, have you made any progress on the partial refund?

Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Im glad Sony did this, for the same reason I'm glad they pulled that rootkit BS.
It screwed themselves over.
They pissed the wrong people off and they are fighting back. GeoHot has vowed to hack PS3, and he seems to be coming along nicely.
Hopefully he'll do us all a favor and remove territorial lockout and whatever stops us from watching DVDs/BRDs over remoteplay

I'm sorry but your logic is beyond nonsensical.NeoTechni wrote:Im glad Sony did this, for the same reason I'm glad they pulled that rootkit BS.

Howso? Just cause you failed to understand it didn't make it nonsensicalAppleQueso wrote: I'm sorry but your logic is beyond nonsensical.
The rootkit pushed DRM back significantly. Sony pushed too far, consumers pushed back.
This act did the same. Because of this, GeoHot will advance PS3 hacking more than its got since PS3 came out.
