Civilization II Test of Time Yay or Nay?

Post by Erik_Twice »

Has anyone played it? It's worth playing the Sci-Fi and Fantasy campaings or should I pass and just stick with the modern Civs?

I've heard people say II was the best but I've never played it.

II is the best, but I've never bothered to play the extra campaigns. If you want a truly awesome scifi Civ experience, seek out Alpha Centauri.

Alpha Centauri is already on my have-list. I actually prefer IV to II but I if the campaings are good I may give it a try.

Civilization II has withstood the ravages of time better than Civ III, if you ask me. Civ III just seemed like a big ol' overwrought, bloated mess. I probably didn't put enough time into it, though.

If I had to pick one game to play for eternity, it would probably be Civ II.

Unfortunately (for me), Civilization II has the same effect on time as a good D&D session. Before you know it, eight hours of your life are completely GONE.

I started with Civ 2 and have played them all since. My vote would be for Civ 2. It's a Yay for me.

The gameplay holds up, the live action movies do (they're so bad they're humorous, plus I have a soft spot for old PC games with those old movies with real people, since I used to play them when they were "cool"). But the graphics hold up worse than most Genesis or SNES games, and the music is very dated (even SimCity 2000 sounds better). Still, it's so cheap it's not a problem.

Test of Time is good. It takes a bit to get use to but it is a solid game. AND it adds play by email.
