Resonance of Fate

Post by MrPopo »

Anyone else playing this yet? I was sold on the battle system when I tried out the JP demo, and now that I understand how it works fully I'm enjoying it even more. It's got a ton of flash and pizzaz but the underlying mechanic is quite solid on its own. And you need to fully utilize the system or you're going to get beat. I died several times on the first boss because I wasn't doing the combat properly, and if you start doing poorly you go into a danger mode where you die VERY quickly.

The story is interesting, though. And by that I mean the total lack of a singular plotline at the moment. I just reached the second or third chapter (can't remember which) and so far it's all been world building. I'm confident something will come up, and there's all these hints at something in the background, but it's kinda like the opening eps of Bleach. You know that there's something cool that's going to happen with this setting but right now it's just self contained episodes.

when i get a ps3 (very soon!) i plan on getting this game as one of my first 3. the fact that the battle system looks awesome and i love the gun creation system sold me...then i found out that the story develops more late in the game and i wasn't sure after that. but now i know i can get it and have some fun with it. what gets me really excited is i can finally support sega once again. it had been years since i bought one of they games, so it makes me happy to finally see a great bunch of sega games out (this, valkeria chronicles, and yakuza 3).

The gun customization system is interesting. There's only a grand total of 12 guns in the game, split across pistols and SMGs (and you can dual wield). The guns are expensive to buy and each one is limited stock. So the main goal is customization. It's a pretty simple system; you start with a side view of the gun with several attachment points. Different parts can attach to different points. Some parts have attachment points of their own, which can lead to such hilarity as a gun with 7+ scopes. However, all must fit in the confined space of the grid. The gun can be moved freely around the grid to give you space. So, for example, if I put a ton of barrels on the gun I won't be able to add anything on the back (not sure what that part is yet; I haven't unlocked it). So the system lets you specialize each character's weapon to weigh it towards different stats.

Great battle system? Hmmm, interesting. That's pretty much the only reason I'm still playing Final Fantasy 13

I'll put this on my list

This has been on my radar for some time, but so has a lot of stuff that I can't hope to buy for some time :(

P.S.
I am so envious of you. Every time a game comes out that I want but can't afford, MrPopo has created a topic or mentioned in one that he has it. I hate tuition.

I'm living the dream. Now that I'm out of college and have a good job I can get every game I want.

I don't think it is actually a profession. He just wins and that's it. If he actually worked to make all the money he does, he wouldn't have the time to play or even get all these games.
