I have an imac, and i have a question

Depends on the iMac. If its less than 7 or so years old it already has a wireless card in it most likely.

You need to be sure the WiFi dongle has Mac drivers. But yes, what you described is theoretically possible. These are some Mac-friendly options, but there are others out there as well. As RyaN said, it may already have a WiFi card. (Airport is Apple's name for WiFi, if you're new to Macs.)

Can you provide some more details? As you can see in that article, there were about five years worth of G3 iMacs, with quite a variety of capabilities. Do you know what operating system it's running? Also, Airport has been around since 1999, so it's possible the iMac has an Airport card.

All iMacG3s require an airport adaptor to go online (officially). You can use a wireless dongle that has mac drives. Stay away from Belkin, their drivers are shit, get a Ralink they have a better chance of being compatible with linux/OSX. Look for a wireless dongle that is OSX compatible. There are definitely ones out there, whether they are still being made or not is a different matter due to all macs made in the last 5 or so years having airport built in (no exceptions).
