Online Options for Original Xbox

Post by bladerunner »

I searched around a bit and did not see a topic on this. If there is one, please Luke or Niode feel free to flame me.

Anyway, I am trying to decide what is the best online service for the original Xbxo now that Live support for the console is being dropped. I have used Xbox Connect in the past and I am aware of Xlink Kai. Has anyone used these services recently and have opinions? Is there another service I should know about.

I am leaning towards Kai at the moment due to the support of it at xbox-scene. And just so anyone making any recommendations knows, I have a modded Box with one of the xecuter chips.

All anyone ever plays on Kai is Halo 2. You would either have to be very lucky or arrange a match beforehand to play anything else.

Xlink Kai is pretty much your only option. like LL said before me, Halo 2 is pretty much the only game that gets played on it, with slight smatterings of Halo 1 (it supports LAN) Xlink Kai will only work with games that support LAN mode (it's a port tunnelling application) it basically acts a wan adaptor for LAN support. The xbox's just think that they're running a LAN game, so you don't get any of the xbox live features like matchmaking etc.

To be fair, I doubt many folks were playing anything BUT Halo 2 on Xbox Live anyway.

However, I do believe some people were still playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Conker Live and Reloaded, just as much as Halo 2.

So I setup a connection to Xlink Kai, and I actually saw a few other games going on besides Halo 2. Steel Battalion: LOC had several players so did Unreal 3, Midnight Club 3, and Halo 1 of course. I am thinking we might see more players jump on after Live support for Xbox 1 is dropped next month.

A little side track, sorry bladerunner.
So how is Conker, compared to the original N64 version that is.

I know you didn't ask me. The game is essentially the same, but quite a bit of the swearing has been censored and a lot of events have been remixed. The graphics are very nice for an xbox game. I don't understand why it gets such a bad rep, the game is still entertaining to play and I played through both the original and the xbox remake.

Thanks, loved Conker on the N64. So now there are two games that will make me wanna XBox. Conker and Steel Battalion.
