Not that I have a full compliment of classic punk myself, but what about Circle Jerks, Crass, and The Exploited? The Sex Pistols can be argued as both classic or sellout garbage, though I like Never Mind myself.REPO Man wrote:Good, except:soniklife wrote: punk:

REPO Man-I am not really all that into The Cramps or pretty much any other band that has horror/sci fi kind of theme or some kind of showy shtick. I like those genres but not in my music. The only band I like a lot that has shtick would be Man or Astroman? as they mix the whole 1950-60 matinee sci fi thing with surf rock.
Hobie-Wan- Mind you I own thousands of records, cds and tapes thus I enjoy more bands than were listed. With that being said I do enjoy a bunch more punk bands though I have never been much of a Circle Jerks fan. Crass and The Exploited I like bits and pieces of. Exploited I thought were pretty solid for that type of charged UK 82 punk but I thought once they fancied themselves a thrash/crossover band I was totally uninterested.
Some other punk bands that I am interested in are Angry Samoans, The Screamers, Suicide, Agent Orange, Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders, Television, Uproar, Rudimentary Peni, Defiance, The Weirdos, etc.
Plus I like a lot of No Wave stuff like James Chance & The Contortions, Mars, DNA, Liquid Liquid, ESG, A Certain Ratio, The Pop Group, Bush Tetras, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, etc.

Rudimentary Peni may just be one of my favorite bands ever. Top five for sure. I do not know too much about The Exploited's metal years as I have never been much of a fan of theirs but I love English Dogs metal stuff...maybe more than their punk stuff.soniklife wrote:

This is a good sampling of bands that I dig.
Black Flag, Amebix, Rudimentary Peni, Broken Bones, Deviated Instinct, Netjajev SS, World Burns To Death, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Eyehategod, Septic Death, Poison Idea, Motorhead, Saint Vitus, Carcass, Mercyful Fate, Manilla Road, Neurosis, Sisters of Mercy, Uriah Heep, Cirith Ungol, English Dogs, Rupture, Darkthrone, Flux of Pink Indians, Weedeater, Kylesa, Discharge, Hellshock, Electro-Hippies, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Kreator, Sodom, SOD, MOD, Municipal Waste, Sacred Reich, DRI, MDC...blah blah..

I am no NWoBHM expert myself. I just like Iron Maiden and a few others mostly.
Re: What do you listen to?
Yea I like alot of new wave especially the non-english stuff. There are a ton of obscure bands from the 70s and 80s just as good or better than Depeche Mode, Gary Numan or whoever you fancy. It's too bad that style of music came and went so fast!Pulsar_t wrote:Awesome! I take it you like Falco too. Rock me Amadeus!Merz wrote:Now hear this!

Re: What do you listen to?
I'm mainly and old-school death metal fan. Morbid Angel, Obituary, Vader, Death, Possessed, Bolt Thrower (especially Bolt Thrower, man I love Bolt Thrower), Atheist, the first Darkthrone album, I could go on for a while. Aside from that, I'm partial to just about any other form of metal, along with a handful of crust punk and grindcore bands (Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Skitsystem, Nausea, to name a few), as well as a tiny bit of ambient and electronic stuff (Stars of the Lid, Biosphere, Front Line Assembly).
I also love Devin Townsend's material, both his solo stuff and his Strapping Young Lad stuff.

Swedish pop star Robyn. I like her song with Kleerup, With Every Heartbeat (look it up on Youtube), but when I recently got her #1 UK best seller I was quite disappointed with most of the other numbers. Still, that music video is awesome imho. You should check out blogs they have tons of obscure european bands. I like italo, new wave, spacesynth and much more that I don't even know how to categoriseMerz wrote:Yea I like alot of new wave especially the non-english stuff.
