Star Trek video games
Star Trek video games
I am a huge Trek nerd but I really have not played a lot of Star Trek video games. I like Star Trek 25th anniversary but beyond that I do not know really what there is and what is good. Are there any good Trek games?
Re: Star Trek video games
I was going to say 25th Anv, was the only one I ever really liked, most of the others seem really low budget (even by Star Trek standards), there was a decent shooter but I cant remember its name.
The Next Gen Pinball Machine is amazing fun.

I've never played one myself, being a big fan also I'm not sure how that's happened. But I've heard good things about Elite Force, and Bridge Commander. There was a Voyager arcade game too, but every time I've seen one it hasn't been turned on.

Nope.Octopod wrote:Are there any good Trek games?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Star Trek video games
Which one? There are two different games by that title. The NES game is OK, but very short. The Amiga/PC/Mac game is much larger and more intricate, with a different story line, as I recall. I thought it was very good.Octopod wrote:I like Star Trek 25th anniversary
Beyond those, I don't think I've played any other Star Trek games.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Star Trek: Elite Force seems to be the Quake 3-based one that I've heard a lot of good things about.
And yeah, Next Gen Pinball was awesome.

Yes there are good Trek games. But there are a lot more turds. If you liked the adventure game style of 25th Anniversary, you'll like A Final Unity. Bridge Commander was already mentioned, I'll second that. Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator is out for the DS/PSP and is somewhat similar. I thought Starfleet Academy was pretty good too, if you can get past the cheesy FMV cutscenes. It even worked well under Wine, fwiw. If you actually like cheesy FMV, Borg and Klingon are both good for a laugh. But not much more than that. Klingon Honor Guard is a decent FMV based on the original Unreal Engine. Competent but not outstanding.
I think that covers just about every Trek game I've played, except for the old mainframe version. I think everyone must have played that at some point though.

100th post...
Anyway, yes there are good Trek games. Everyone has mentioned the Elite Force games, which are great. I am partial to the second one, you should give them all a try. Additionally, another good action game is The Fallen. It never received much attention upon release, but I found it to be enjoyable.
I also enjoyed the Armada games. I especially like the Star Wars vs. Star Trek mod created for Armada. Nothin' like Star Destroyers going up against Klingon Birds of Prey.

Star Trek Online?
I second A Final Unity, despite having a clunky interface. I also have the bridge commander games but never got the voice recognition to work perfectly with them. I was looking forward to Legacy but it turned out pretty average. I also have Elite Force II but never managed to finish it.

I have only played the NES version even though I have an old boxed copy for the PC. Maybe I should try that in an emulator.Limewater wrote:Which one? There are two different games by that title. Thanks for the input guys. I'll try to check some of those out, especially the FMV games.
