What's with the sexism and homophobia lately?

Dsheinem didn't start this thread to start a semantics debate. I'm positive we have a "why is cursing bad" thread already. I could be wrong, but I think what he is saying is, cut out the lame sexist jokes, stop referring to every other thing as "gay" and "faggy", and overall, just try to show some class.
I completely agree. Its on thing to speak a certain way in front of friends who know what your real intentions are, but to speak like that in front of a community of people you don't know shows a lack of consideration. After all you wouldn't be in the middle restaurant, party, or class and yell out obscenities for the same reason. Show some restraint and pick some other words to get your point across.
The thing is when someone says something along the lines of "that game is pretty gay" everyone already knows what the real intentions are. They just choose to make a big deal about it for whatever reason. I'm willing to bet at least %98 of you arguing about this here are not gay (or bi) so, why the fuck do any of you even care? I am pretty sure i'm the only person that has come out and said im bi, and guess what i don't care. If some new member joins, sees someone use the work "gay" in stead of "lame" or "sucks" or "not very good" and gets so offended that he or she never comes back and/or crys them self to sleep for a week. Good riddance.

People also use the lords name in vain all the time here. Nobody cares? I guess we should also stop saying "that sucks" because it's bashing all those brave women and men that preform fellatio from time to time. Maybe we also need to stop saying "that's lame" because it hurts the feelings of horses around the globe. Think of all the happier horses we could have in the world if we at RacketBoy make a stand! Now! Or maybe people need to stop being such hyper-sensitive annoying crybaby assholes that try to change everybody into their idea of what right/wrong is.

I've stated pretty clearly how I feel about the issue. I don't have anything else to say about it. You have stated pretty clearly that you don't care how I feel about the issue and that you believe me to be an "annoying crybaby asshole" for not agreeing with you. I now know what you think of me, and I now know what I think of you. I guess this thread has run its course and is done.

I have only read the OP, but I'm going to jump in right away and mention that there's been at least a couple of times on this board where, when this topic has been brought up, a number of people reply by saying "'Gay' doesn't refer to anything negative toward homosexuals, it just means 'stupid' or 'dumb' or 'loser-like' ......... WHY DO YOU THINK IT CARRIES THAT CONNOTATION?? If you cannot see this connection then you're simply a dumbass who doesn't get it.

I'd like to go through the thread now and see if anyone has used this lame argument. Not sure I care to engage with anyone dumb enough not to see such a connection. But I wanted to post this now, without having read any responses, to be sure that the above response is not directed at particular members.

I like fags. They make me gay. I guess I'm just queer
RyaNtheSlayA wins this thread. Let's just stop all the fussin' and the feudin' and enjoy his post.

Anyone else find it funny that most of the whining is coming from the people that want to be able to use these terms. In effect placing the stereotypes of those terms right on the shoulders of the people using them.

I DO. :D

J T wrote: And then this leads to sexism because so many of the things these runts hate about queer people are often the more feminine qualities. The recent post about Call of Duty for women being an iron- come on. Are we really going to make jokes based on some 1950s stereotype of what a woman should be? For fuck's sake. Respect your women boys. Making jokes about them being the lesser sex only makes you look lesser.
I know it's a very, very late response to this, but I've always understood this not so much as mocking women, quite the opposite, I see it as mocking sexism. It's poking fun at old-fashioned absurd ideals for our amusement. Really, I don't see a whole lot wrong with that, it's hardly an indication of sexism being on the rise or anything of the sort.

As for the whole "gay" thing, meh. It's a modern slang term. Sure a few people are getting a bit touchy about it, but leave it alone and in time it'll be just another corny outdated phrase.
