Any recommendations on a small desktop CRT?
I bought a 20" t.v. off craigslist the other day and came to the realization I don't want a whole new setup to play NES, SNES, Genesis and N64 games.
In my den I have a 32 LCD for my 360 so I'm looking for a small 13" CRT that has S-Video and is known to be a solid performer. The smaller the better.
Any recommendations?

Any recommendations?

A pre VGA Commodore Monitor. The 1702 or 1902. Rear connection has S-Video if you custom make the cable. S-Video to two RCA Chroma and Luma. The 1702 also has a front composite connection.
I think this one is spoken for. Try Swap Meets and Goodwill. More pics on following pages.

The 1702 and 1902 are mono sound though, FYI. There is also the Commodore 1084 monitor which also has the split s-video input as well as RGB and mono sound. The 1084S has stereo speakers built in as well and a different RBG input plug. Though the 1084 monitors are a bit mroe in demand because of the RGB input.

Thanks fellas. It's hard to believe that is the best small option it's so clunky.
I did see the 1702 came in black (aesthetics) do matter but I'm sure it will be close to impossible to find a black one.

If money is not an option I wonder if I should try to track down a XRGB box?

I have never seen a black 1702 monitor, be interesting to see if you come across one. Did you get a chance to look at my previous reply 1702 monitor link? More info on the second page there specifically on this monitor.aka DaBigKahuna wrote:If money is not an option I wonder if I should try to track down a XRGB box?
Non HD CRT TVs or Non VGA computer monitor do take up more room, but for your older consoles I think its the way to go. Especially in case down the road you get some Lightguns for those old consoles.
XRGB box probably won't be worth the upgrade in light of the fact you are sticking to a small monitor size. Besides you will lose lightgun functions going VGA.
The Dreamcast with its own VGA adaptor that does support Lightguns on a VGA CRT.
If you have not read signature link, it has a lot of ideas concerning CRT,LCD and transcoders. May be of help.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I checked out that thread and will be on the lookout for that monitor.
I have a 32 LCD that's why I threw out the XRGB thought.
Here is a pic of the black one:

Looks like I have a local seller selling a 1084, computer and floopy for $100. Wonder if it's worth it to try and talk him down. Here's one on ebaY.

Re: Any recommendations on a small desktop CRT?
Thats the back of the monitor which is dark brown. In the pic it does look black, got a front pic? I looked at mine again and its the 1701 not 1702. Pretty much identical, front tan C64 color and the back very dark brown almost black. Difference is the accessory cable going from Commodore (Vic20 or C64) Computer to the monitor, monitor inputs are the same. To use that rear "S-Video" input you'll need to make a cable. I wish this is how all S-Video should have been, kinda like a pre-Component type connection.aka DaBigKahuna wrote:Here is a pic of the black one:

Re: Any recommendations on a small desktop CRT?
I have a few 1702s, as well as a 1084 and 1084S I mentioned above. As CRT said, the 1702 is tan with a basically black back. Yes it does look chunky, but becasue it is mostly square you might be able to stack something on top. The speaker is top mounted so there would have to be good feet to keep from muffling, but there an approximately 9x12 flat area up there.

Thanks fellas, sorry I'm colorblind.
I'm tempted to say they hell with it and get this set. It's not such an eyesore and that nice case can house all the consoles.
