Best non point-and-click adventure games?

Post by martin31406 »

Rather than a game like Syberia or Still Life, I'm looking for a game more on the lines of Dreamfall or Indigo Prophecy. So what are considered to be some of the better non point-and-click games of the adventure genre? My system of choice is the PC btw

Try Shadow of Destiny, the Silent Hills, Clock Tower 3, the Fatal Frames, Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island (character control relative to the background), Raw Danger, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon... I'll come back with more later. Note that some of those games have action/horror elements. You can always check out gameplay videos and reviews on Youtube before buying anything.

That's kind of on the border of point-and-click and other adventure games. [One could argue that you're not really "clicking".] Still a stellar game, though. I recommend the entire series. In my opinion, probably the best handheld adventure game/series of this generation.

Phoenix Wright wouldn't match the criteria.

Grim Fandango by far, I was so skeptical of the GRIME engine when it came out but man this game was awesome, stay away from MI4 and that is from a massive MI fan.

The third Broken Sword (Though the weakest in the series) is great as well.

Haha just noticed the PC-only requirement  Still, Silent Hill 2/3/4/HC, Shadow of Destiny and Broken Sword 3 all have PC ports. A few more: The Path, Second Sight, Psychonauts, Obscure: The Aftermath, Cold War, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, Ecstatica II, Dark Earth, In Cold Blood, The X-Files Game, Men In Black (you might like it  ), Outcast, BioForge, Time Commando, Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy (1+2+3), Fade to Black, Clive Barker's Undying, Litil Divil, Little Big Adventure 1+2, Lost: Via Domus, Enemy Zero, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (WRPG elements), Pathologic.. Want more? :P
