Rare Game Price Trends

Post by racketboy »

With the announcement of Ikaruga and Rez coming to the XBLA, it will be interesting to see what these downloads do to the value of the original game releases.

I hope to start tracking the average sale prices of these up until a while after their XBLA release.

Here's what the last month showed on eBay
Rez (DC) $50
Rez (Ps2) $45

Ikaruga (DC) $75
Ikaruga (GC) $45

Radiant Silvergun $190 (I just want to track this one just in case)

Did anybody buy or seriously shop for any of these over the last year or two? can you remember what the going prices were? It would be nice if I had estimates of the past to show a better trend.

In know it was only a couple years ago or so that Radiant Silvergun was only like $120 or so.
Also a couple years ago, I think I got the GC Ikaruga for about $20 (and the going price probably wasn't even $30)

In 2004 I picked up a used copy of GC Ikaruga at a GameStop for around $30.

I, too, am interested to see if the price for Rez will drop. Is RS really going for that much right now? o_O

Yeah, it's crazy isn't it? Supposedly, it's quite easy to find in Japan.
So if you take a flight out there, look in all the game shops :)

Four copies sold on eBay in the last 30 days. Here's the approx. prices with shipping:
$170, $195, $180, $190
I guess my estimate above was off by a few $s.

Actually it was 15 dollars... lucky sob.

it's amazing how much these games go up in price... I won't be selling any of mine any time soon though. Still jam out Rez weekly on my dreamcast.

Oh -- was it you that I bought it from? :)
I knew it was somebody either here or on SX (or both)

Sadly, Radiant Silvergun's price in japan has steadily gone up as a result of ebay madness.

I think games like this are different

I think people paying $190 for Radient Silvergun are the type of people that NEED to have the actual game and box anyway. If they really just wanted to only play it they'd just mod a system and burn the game, especially now that it's almost a decade old.

I think it's great that they're allowing people to play games at fair prices now through online releases. If it's a choice between NEVER being able to play a game, paying $190, or hacking a system and pirating it, you can't blame people for modding systems and burning games.

Yeah, I've sold you a ton of stuff over at SX actually if I recall correctly. Gameboy stuff, DC stuff, gamecube stuff... back when I was clearing out my closet (I was short on change and just dumping my mass collection).

Things have changed though and I'm rebuilding my collection again.

Racket - I bought a copy of Rez for the PS2 earlier this year (probably around spring sometime) at a local GameStop and I remember it was $40. A buddy of mine went looking for it around town about a week later and paid the same price for it.

Though I like collecting physical copies, I might sell this one on ebay to get some extra cash for other games once its available on XBLA. It'll be better there anyway.

The PS2 version of Rez is easy as hell to find anymore because GameQuestDirect funded additional print runs of it. To help fuel the "omg rare!" hype train, Gamestop sells 'em as used, but until recently you could buy them brand new directly from GQD for $40. Not like there's really any difference (other than being gutted); the reason why all of those used copies at Gamestop look so clean and new is because they pretty much are :)

It's funny that when the game first came out in the US on PS2, no one bothered to buy it because everyone that was interested in it just pirated it on Dreamcast. KMart was dumping copies for $15 a pop in early 2003 and they still took a while to clear 'em out.
