Ps1 games for a ps2 any ideas?

Post by mas »

Hey guys,
I've ended up with a ps2 not long ago for 20.00 from my buddy who has a ps3. I never really got into a ps2 since mine went on me a few times with the dvd disc read error. So I just stayed away from it and boy what a mistake. Everything I wanted is on this system. All the 2d fighters, the shumups, the dreamcast ports, etc. Also if you change the texture options from the menu the ps1 games that i loved look actually playable on a big screen. I just wanted to ask though which ps1 games do still look good and playable on a big screen? I don't like rpgs though thanks

Omega Boost perhaps? Sorry but I for one think the 3D for PS1 (and Sat/N64) has aged terribly. I think 2D games are a safe bet though. And there's always the quirky title like Jumping Flash! that can prove timeless.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I know you said you don't like RPG's, but this game isn't a turn-based RPG like Final Fantasy or something. It's a 2D side scroller like any old school Castlevania game, but you just happen to have a leveling system like in an RPG and you can equip new gear like in an RPG.

I don't mind the 3d, but I also just recently got in to PS2/1 for the 2d action, primarily.

These games look amazing through my PS2 component:
Rayman
Silhouette Mirage
Darkstalkers 3
Crash Team Racing

and I agree about Castlevania SOTN

Largely, I would check out the 2D games on Playstation because their graphics hold up the best.

Strider 2. It's easy, but fun. It also comes with the first Strider from the arcades/Genesis.

I 2nd Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Classic game.

Tomba is another one to check out.

Klonoa 1 for PS1 and Klonoa 2 for PS2 are two of my favorite side scrolling platform games.

PS1 had some good shmups on it as well: R-Type Delta, Thunder Force V, Einhander, Raiden Project.

PS2 also has some good shmups for it: Gradius V, R-Type Final, Ibara, Esp Galuda.

Have you checked the guides yet? Lot of PS1 games posted there to get you started. Blue Bar at the top.

Metal Gear Solid is a must have PS1 game. I also like Ape Escape.

Not a PS1 game but PS2. Tons of PS2 games you can discover.
Right now I'm reliving Tombraider in the form of the Anniversary edition. In comparison to PS3 Drake's fortune, this game holds its own. Laura definitely more nimble then the Tank Control PC version.

Don't hesitate, get it get it, PS2 GOD OF WAR 1 and 2.

Thanks guys for the ideas. Now I understand about the 2d games especially castlevania but i'm more interested in games like the 3d games like twisted metal 2 or the syphon filter series or gran turismo or ridge racer series. Or what about the resident evil series? Or metal gear solid? You guys get my point. Any advice would be much help thanks. Ohh yeah I do plan on getting alot of the 2d games like castlevania and the fighting games and megaman x4 and 8

If you want racing games, your better of getting there ps2 versions, the ps1 games were great in there time but if your hardware can play there newer versions, why bother.

I find a lot of 3D PS1 games hard to look at these days. A lot of them hurt my eyes. I love the PS1's Twisted Metals, but it takes a while for my eyes to adjust to it before I start enjoying it.
