Manny Pacman wins again
Manny Pacman wins again
Not really video game related, but in nickname only.
Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao wins again.
Joshua Clottey as his own trainer put it, would not take a chance but kept covered up. Over 1200 punches thrown by the Pacman compared to Clottey under measly 400 punches thrown. The kicker was when Manny did a double rabbit punch (both fists at once) Ref warned and the Pac's smile showing as if to say "Sorry he won't open up and fight".

Re: Manny Pacman wins again
I thought Clottey would do a lot better than Cotto did against Manny, but boy was I wrong. Hopefully if Floyd Mayweather beats Shane Mosley on May 1st we will finally get to see the much anticipated Pacquaio Vs. Mayweather fight.

Re: Manny Pacman wins again
Wow, there are boxing fans on this board?!
Yeah the PacMan was just too much for Clottey. It was almost a shutout on all three cards.
As for the other upcoming fight, I expect Mayweather to get past Mosley, but it won't be easy. Shane is 38 now but is still as slick as they come. Mayweather has basically been dodging this guy for years, and for good reason.
So hopefully the mega-match that all of us want to see, will happen later this year.
It's a pick-em fight, in my opinion. Too close to call, which is why it's so highly anticipated.

I have no idea if anyone else here participates in mixed martial arts, but that number of punches is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-diculous. True, rabbit punches are exactly that, but even throwing 1000 rabbit punches will wear a man out. Add that to the fact that Manny threw some hay makers in there is astonishing. Now i know why Mayweather won't fight the man.CRTGAMER wrote: Over 1200 punches thrown by the Pacman <snip>
I'm still trying to wrap that stat around my head. 1,231 punches. That's over 100 punches thrown a round. I doubt I could throw 800 punches on even a speed or double end bag, nonetheless connecting on sinew.
Incredible.

Yeah Pacquiao is a freak of nature, there's no doubt about that.Luke wrote:I have no idea if anyone else here participates in mixed martial arts, but that number of punches is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-diculous. I mean the guy moves up and cleans out all the divisions from 108 onwards. That's never been done in boxing, never. That a guy coming up from flyweight can not only be competing with natural welters/light middleweights, but knocking most of them out!
Re your comment regarding the astonishing number of punches thrown, there have been a few through the years with that type of 'abnormal' work-rate. Former lightweight contender- Ivan Robinson, comes to mind. Not in the same class as the PacMan but he too was ultra-fit and could throw a ton of punches (averaging in the 100's) per round.
Another that comes to mind is an old-timer from back in the 30's and 40's. Henry Armstrong was his name. He made a career by simply overwhelming the opponent with a non-stop barrage of punches each round.
But what sets Pacquiao apart from these and most other fighters, is as you have noted, that he mixes in a whole host of power-punches amongst his combinations. These other guys that I mentioned were mostly arm-punchers with very little leverage, so they probably weren't using up as much energy as one might have initially thought.

I'm wondering how long Roy Jones Jr. (in his prime) would last fighting Pacquiao.
Re: Manny Pacman wins again
YES!! Pacman won again!
)
I remember being in the Philippines on vacation back in 2006, during the time Pacquiao was scheduled to fight Oscar Larios at Araneta Coliseum in Manila. I was in Cebu at the time, and the hotel we were staying in had this HUGE projection screen and people could just come in and watch the fight. When he won, I could hear the cheers from TWELVE floors up!
And all week before and after the fight, Pacquiao was everywhere on every channel and endorsing everything in sight. McDonalds even had a special chicken combo meal made just for him - the "Knockout Combo" with chicken drumsticks and rice!
I agree. In the Philippines he's a national hero because he keeps on winning. My parents make a very big deal about watching his fights... and I'm pretty sure my relatives and about 90% of the employees at my work will be talking about this latest fight all next week. (Hampton Roads has one of the largest Filipino-American communities in the US, so I'm guessing even MORE people will be talking about it too!Thierry Henry wrote:Yeah Pacquiao is a freak of nature, there's no doubt about that.![]()

Re: Manny Pacman wins again
I missed the fight last night but had it recorded and was going to watch it in about half an hour. I've avoided the news on tv the news websites i normally use on the mornings and my friends havent mentioned it all day so I could watch the fight without already knowing who won.
I can't believe after all that iv'e been screwed by a retro gaming forum. You could've at least named the thread differant for spoilers.
Still i suppose when its pacquiao its always entertaining even when you know the outcome.

haha, I know. I mean who would have thought that guys probably more at home discussing stuff like consolized MVS's and whatnot, would be interested in boxing.SegaDreamscape wrote:I can't believe after all that iv'e been screwed by a retro gaming forum. Nice surprise, though.
